Simple translation
thiruvazhundhUr is the abode which has very beautiful streets which are lengthy and great like an ocean with shores; in those streets, mansions which are reaching up to the sky, which are whitish due to applying limestone paint and are covered with precious gemstones, are present. The sun’s hot rays atop those mansions are hidden by the smoke emitted from the sugarcane factory. During the dusk time, bhagavAn entered that abode and remained on the flower bed. Then, he entered my heart and while talk of separation came about, I started crying and tears started overflowing from my karuneydhal flower like eyes. Seeing that, he remained here, being unable to leave. Such bhagavAn’s eternal abode of thiruvazhundhUr is eternally desirable as in the case of paramapadham.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
mAlaip pugundhu … – Arrived at the time of enjoyment (dusk time), remaining in the flower bed and then left there.
adiyEn manam pugundhu … – Entered my heart which exists exclusively for him, spoke about leaving, and then saw my teary eyes and suffering, remained here without leaving. The eternal abode of such bhagavAn.
vElai … – The greatness of the divine streets is similar to that of the ocean with shores.
viN thOy sudhai … – Being tall, reaching up to svargam (heaven), having applied limestone paint and being whitish due to that, being covered with precious gemstones, the mansion has sun’s hot rays. Those rays along with the streets were covered by the smoke emitted from the sugarcane factory. With this, the closeness of the town and the fertile fields, is highlighted.
