SrI pAncharAthra SlOkam “ahamasmyaparAdhAnAm Alaya:” (I am the reservoir for all the offences) is explained.

  • ahamasmyaparAdhAnAm Alaya: – Instead of being identified by gyAnam (Knowledge), Anandham (Bliss) etc, AthmA has become rusted to be identified by aparAdhams (offences). AthmA’s svarUpam (true nature) is as said in “gyAthAham, bhagavath SEshathaika rasOham” (I am the knower, I enjoy being a servitor of bhagavAn). Hence, mOksham is said in chAndhOgya upanishath 8.12 “svEnarUpENa abinishpadhyathE” (he attains his natural and distinguished state), as self-realisation. With this, it is told that prakruthi sambandham (connection to matter) is incidental for the AthmA. When gemstones are run through polishing machine, the shine increases for them. Since it is incidental, the dirt is leaving [some day]. Though the connection with achith (matter) is anAdhi (without a beginning), it also remains without any shortcoming, being with an end.
  • akinchana: – Remaining without atonement even for being the abode of offences.
  • ananya gathi: – After having nothing in hand, there is no one other than your highness to look at his pitiful state and shower the mercy. There is no other refuge.
  • thvamEva upAya bhUthO mE bhava – When analysed, after understanding that I cannot protect myself and no one else cannot protect myself, only you can be our upAyam (means).
  • ithi prArthanA mathi: – To attain this ultimate goal [of bhagavath kainkaryam], the only requirement is this budhdhi viSEsham (special knowledge). Just as existence of AthmA, the svIkAram (accepting bhagavAn as upAyam) is also a natural aspect of the AthmA.
  • mAm – me. Just as Ekam (only) [Implies, me only].
  • SaraNAgathirithyukthA – This is known as SaraNAgathi.
  • sA – Such SaraNAgathi.
  • dhEvEsmin prayujyathAm – This should be performed towards sarvESvaran, SrIman nArAyaNan. There are other persons with whom such surrender has even led to destruction. Who protects others manifesting simplicity?

Previously, parakAla nAyaki sent some birds as messenger and then sent her heart as messenger; before they come back, she got tormented by harmful entities; the mothers and friends give good instructions and try to withdraw her; but she says “My heart has gone to him and hence I cannot listen to your words and withdraw myself; till it comes back I remain firm to be faithful on his words”. She has not seen him coming. Since thiruppullANi is an abode where he came to eliminate the sorrow of a woman (sIthAp pirAtti), one can remain patient. But thirukkuRungudi is an abode where he has arrived to eliminate our sorrows. Hence, oh those who can walk! You carry me and place me in thirukkuRungudi – says parakAla nAyaki.
