Simple Translation
Oh kaNNapirAn! I am now imbibing the beauty of youthfulness which is shining beautifully, with various limbs of your divine form, such as the divine face which looks like a full moon which gives happiness to the beholders, the strong arms, the divine chest and the strong shoulders, the divine forehead which appears like the crescent of the moon, below the dark and radiant hair which is decked with tender leaves and flowers, the broad, divine eyes which are like lotus flower. I, who had committed lot of sins, lost out on looking at your beauty when you were an infant, when you would have known only me, your mother, and no one else. My life will not sustain.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
kaLi nilA ezhil madhi purai mugamum – the divine face which is like a full moon, which is brimming with the brightness of moon enjoyed by everyone.
kaNNanE thiN kai mArvum thiN thOLum – kaNNanE – dhEvaki calls out to krishNa. hanuman tells SrI rAma when they meet for the first time, as in SrI rAmAyaNam kishkindhA kANdam 3-15 SlOkam “AyathAScha suvruthAscha bhAhava: parighOpamA: l sarva bhUshaNa bhUshArhA: kimartham na vibhUshithA: ||” (Why are the divine shoulders [of SrI rAma] which are long and well rounded, worthy of being decorated with ornaments, not decorated?) kaNNan has firm, divine hands, divine chest and divine shoulders which are great to be praised.
thaLir malark karunguzhal piRai adhuvum – divine forehead which appears below the dark, divine hair which has been decked up with tender leaves and flowers, making people to exclaim whether it is a crescent of moon.
thadam koL thAmaraik kaNgaLum – just as a huge lotus flower fills up an entire pond, kaNNan’s divine eyes were so wide that it made wonder whether the divine form was made of only his eyes.
polindha iLamai inbaththai inRu endhan kaNNAl paruguvERku – to me [his mother] who is imbibing through my eyes, the shining youthfulness which is brightened by the beauty of the divine limbs.
ivaL thAyena ninaindha aLavil piLLaimai inbaththai izhandha pAviyEn – as an infant, he would have known only me and no one else. At that time, I would have enjoyed his beauty. But I have sinned so much that even after seeing his youthful state and enjoying it, only sorrowfulness remains within me.
enadhu Avi nillAdhE – I cannot sustain my life.
Next, we will take up the 5th pAsuram of this decad.
