Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

munai mugaththu … – In the battle front.

arakkan mALa – Unlike the rAkshasas who would fight deceitful battles to kill the enemies, SrI rAma stood in the battlefront to kill rAvaNa.

mudigaL paththu aRuththu vIzhththu – Severing the heads which were strengthened by rAvaNan by his acts of severing them and offering them in sacrifice. Making them fall down.

Angu – In that battle field itself, for vibhIshaNa who was the younger brother of such rAvaNa who was deeply unfavourable by separating perumAL and pirAtti like separating body and life.

arasu aLiththu aruLinAnE – Looking at the great betrayal [act of disrespecting bhagavAn/pirAtti] of rAvaNan, SrI rAma should have destroyed the entire lankA, but he granted the kingdom to vibhIshaNa, his brother. For his defects, he himself said in SrI rAmAyaNa yudhdha kANdam 17.12 “thasyAham anuja: brAthA” (I am such evil rAvANan’s younger brother). When sugrIva mahArAjar lovingly invited vibhIshaNAzhwAn, he controlled his great joy and became flattened by such love and said “I , who am the brother of lowly rAvaNan, am being invited lovingly by you!”

sunai … – In thirunAngUr where the kayal fish which are living in the ponds think about the roar of the beetles drinking honey and fear that they are falling on them, and jump away.

kanai … – AzhwAr is speaking about the sound of the ornament (anklet); or he is saying about the dense feet which are brave. Is there any one else who is our protector other than you who are having anklet showing your valour as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 18.34 “Ethath vratham mama” (I won’t fail anyone who surrenders unto me. This is my vow) and are present here for that.
