Simple translation
SrI rAma, the divine son of emperor dhaSaratha, was having the intent to enter the cruel rAvaNa’s lankA; to make the ocean which is having abundant water from three sources namely rain, ground and river, worship, he drew his beautiful, striped bow and with the help of monkeys which are roaming around on the [tree] branches in the forests, by making the ancient trees fall and be pushed into the water and to have the water droplets rise and touch the sky, built the bridge with rocks. Let us worship thirukkaNNapuram, which is the abode of such emperumAn.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
mallai munnIr adharpada – mallai means abundance. To have the ocean which is a water body having three types of water, worship; to have the ocean which is glorified as in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 19-31 “apramEyO mahOdhadhi” (this ocean, which cannot be measured), worship.
vari vem silai kAl vaLaiviththu – Having beautiful stripes, drawing the cruel bow which will make the enemies scared by the way it is held.
kollai vilangu paNi seyya – With the service done by the monkeys which are not used to battles and are constantly roaming around the [tree] branches; the kainkaryam which is done by garudAzhwAr, AdhiSEsha et al who are untouched by the smell of samsAra, is done by the monkeys which don’t know the difference between right and left hands.
kodiyOn ilangai pugal uRRu – Thinking about the cruel act of rAvaNa, in his divine heart, AzhwAr is saying cruel rAvaNa. His cruelty is such that he could not tolerate the father and mother remaining together.
Should be read as “ilangai pugal uRRu mallai munnIr adharpada varivenjilaikAl vaLaiviththuk kollai vilangu paNi seyyak kallAl kadalai adaiththAnUr“.
thollai marangaL pugap peydhu – Uprooting ancient trees which were never touched, and making those trees enter into the ocean.
thuvalai nimirndhu vAn aNava – The abode of chakravarthith thirumagan who built the bridge with the rocks which will usually drown in the water and as a result the water droplets rise and fill the sky.
