thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that AzhwAr, in the previous pAsuram, had reminisced about the manner by which emperumAn acted in a biased way towards pANdavas, by removing the danger to them. In this, he reminisces about the way in which he protected the earth, without anyone praying for it, when a great danger came its way.

During the time of deluge, emperumAn swallowed the earth, mountains, oceans with agitating waves and all the other entities; he later spat them out [once deluge had abated]. If you are intently searching for him, there are people who had seen him, marrying SrI bhUmip pirAtti, who is beautiful and has dark locks, after he had taken the form of a huge boar, immersing in deluge, extracting the eminent earth from the walls of the universe .

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

maNNum … – earth, which supports all; the anchoring mountains which support that earth; oceans, with agitating waves, which surround earth, protecting it, and all the other entities. All these

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says additionally here to include all the other entities which have not been mentioned and which are identified by their respective name.

thiNNam vizhungi umizhndha dhEvanai – emperumAn certainly kept earth during the time of deluge in his divine stomach, such that it does not get destroyed. This was not any sleight-of-the- hand activity. He let it out, at the end of deluge. He had a radiance in his form as a result of protecting the entities who needed to be protected.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that emperumAn keeps all these entities, during deluge, through his sankalpam [vow].

chikkena nAdudhirEl – Instead of withdrawing, after searching superficially and saying “We have not seen”, if you are searching with intent …

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that instead of superficially searching for him and saying “We are not able to see; if he doesn’t want to manifest himself, what could we do?”, showing disregard, if you search for him with total faith …

eNNaRu ariyadhOr EnamAgi – Being beautiful and having an eminence in his divine form, he was beyond assessment by anyone with the mind, as a great boar.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that he took the form of a great boar, with none being able to estimate that “He is of this nature or that he is like this”.

irunilam pukkidandhu – extracting earth from the walls of the universe, after immersing in deluge.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that after extracting earth from the walls of the universe, ensuring that all the locations on earth were left as they were originally, as mentioned in thiruvAimozhi 7.4.3maNNum thAnaththavE” (different regions of earth, without slipping, became established in their original locations). After keeping earth, without any disturbance or change, he married SrI bhUmip pirAtti, who is the representative deity for earth. There are people who had seen him, with her.

vaNNam … – bhUmip pirAtti is his [emperumAn’s] affectionate, beloved entity. When he extricated her from deluge, he was very happy. Seeing that, SrI bhUmip pirAtti embraced him. There are people, who had seen him, who came with bhUmip pirAtti, who had dark, divine locks.

We shall next consider the last pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
