Simple translation

On the day when he first came to accept me, he approached me and acknowledged my heart as his abode; he does not know another person’s heart as his abode. Having come to me who was pursued and accepted by himself, he will not allow me to be caught by the hands of yama dhUthas (messengers of yama) who are present in the southern direction; I attained this firmly. Being the lord who is mercifully reclining in thirukkudandhai which is filled with complete orchards, being with amazing activities and who performed kudakkUththu (dance with pots), with which reason can I forget the one who is my benefactor and the lord for my clan which includes me, my father and my grandfather?

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

vandha nAL … – bhagavAn’s initial acceptance cannot be attributed with any of AzhwAr’s previous efforts. Hence it cannot be seen as a return favour from bhagavAn and thus it can only be said as “vandha nAL” (the day he came initially) without any other attributes.

en nenju idam koNdAn – As said in SrI rAmAyaNam AraNya kANdam 5.34 “AvAsam thvahamichchAmi prathishtam iha kAnanE” (As I am looking for a place to say, I will live in this forest as you desire), he made my heart as his abode.

maRRu Or nenju aRiyAn – He is not even going to thiruvadi (garudAzhwAr), thiruvananthAzhwAn (AdhiSEshan) et al. As said in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5.4.8 “anandhan pAlum garudanpAlum aidhu noydhAga vaiththu” (showing less love towards AdhiSEshan and garudAzhwAr), periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5.4.9 “ida vagaigaL igazhndhittu” (abandoning all the abodes) and periya thiruvandhAdhi 68kallum kanaikadalum vaigundha vAnAdum pullenRozhindhanakol” (thiruvEngada hill, the agitated kshIrAbdhi, SrIvaikuNtam were all ignored like ignoring a blade of grass), bhagavAn is not considering that there is any abode other than AzhwAr’s divine heart. When asked “In such a case, is he not present in those places?”, just as saubhari took many forms and enjoyed, bhagavAn is present everywhere thinking “There is nothing better than AzhwAr’s divine heart”.

adiyEnudaiya … – He came with the desire I had towards him as said in thiruvAimozhi 3.3.1vazhuvilA adimai seyya vENdum” (should serve fully without leaving anything), and will not show me to the servitors of yama.

idhu sikkenap peRREn – If this had happened by my vow, there is a possibility of breaking. Since this happened by his vow, it will never break.

kondhulAm … – Mercifully reclining in thirukkudandhai which is surrounded by orchards which have bunches of flowers and eternal spring, he manifested his lordship completely.

kudam Adiya … – One who fully gave his physical beauty to the cowherd people, by dancing with the pots in the four-way junctions.

endhaiyai … – My father, my clan’s lord.

empirAnai … – The great benefactor who manifested his svarUpam, rUpam, guNam, vibhUthi etc, to me.

eththAl maRakkEnE – Can I forget him since he helped me in a limited manner? Can I remain patiently thinking about the favours I proffered to him? How can I forget him? [I can’t forget him]
