In the previous pAsuram “kURai sORu ivai vENduvadhillai”, AzhwAr had said that his sustenance is within the taste of kainkaryam [servitude]. In this pAsuram, he says that his pOshakam [nourishment] and bhOgyam [enjoyment] are within the taste of enjoying emperumAn’s divine feet.

In the svApadhESam, it is mentioned that for AzhwAr, his wealth such as house, land etc are emperumAn’s divine feet only.

Simple Translation

Oh, one who has the nature of holding the earth on the tusks when you had incarnated in the unique form of a great boar! Oh, one who snapped he tusks of the elephant kuvalayApeedam, making it to fall down dead! I had considered your beautiful, divine feet as my garden, wife, cows, barn for the cows, pond, land for growing crops, and well, without any shortcoming in all of these. For me, who remains as “You are everything for me”, it is difficult to cohabit with the people of the world. Many of them desire for such association [but not me].

vyAkhyAnam

thOttam – garden where vegetables are grown, as part of the duties of a married person

illavaL – the lady of the house [wife]

A– cows

thozhu – the area where the cows remain [cattle-barn]

Odai – pond, which is the necessity for … [thudavai, explained next]

thudavai – agricultural land [where crops are cultivated]. Pond is the reason for the existence of agricultural land.

kiNaRum – well, which is required for watering the plants in the garden

ivai ellAm vAttam inRi – without any shortcoming in any of these

un ponnadik kIzhE – Under your feet, which are incomparably enjoyable, I had considered all of these

agam – I

When emperumAn told AzhwAr that there is no shortcoming for him [reference to AzhwAr], AzhwAr says …

nAttu mAnidaththOdu enakku aridhu – it is very difficult for me to tolerate people outside, who leave you aside and go after worldly pursuits as their dhArakam [sustenance], pOshakam [nourishment] and bhOgyam [enjoyable]. There are many, who desire these.

kEzhal onRu Agik kOttu maN koNda – when all the worlds were submerged in the deluge, you had lifted them up and kept them in their respective place, as mentioned in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 2.10.9 “thAnaththE vaiththAnAl” [emperumAn lifted and placed them in their respective location].

In the svApadhESam, the following has been mentioned: when all the worlds were submerged in deluge, you had strung all the worlds on your tusks and kept them in their respective place, having the quality of protecting all as your natural characteristic.

koLgaiyinAn – this is his svabhAvam [his basic characteristic].

kunjaram … – Oh, one who snapped the tusks of the elephant kuvalayApeedam such that It was destroyed! AzhwAr beseeches emperumAn to lift him from samsAris, keep him in his original place of emperumAn’s divine feet and also to remove the karmas [past deeds] which are enemies for reaching emperumAn’s divine feet.

In the svApadhESam, it is mentioned that just as emperumAn removed the tusks of the elephant kuvalayApeedam, he should remove AzhwAr’s bondage with samsAram and mercifully grant him his divine feet

We shall next consider the 6th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
