Simple Translation

On looking at the messengers of yama, urine will flow from reproductive organ, on its own. Before the gruel, made of rice, poured in the mouth, chokes the neck and starts dripping from a corner of one’s mouth, and deep sleep sets in, if you are capable of calling out “Oh, hrishIkESa!” and praise him, dogs will not grasp your thigh, in yamalOkam. The messengers of yama will not poke you with trident. You will not lose your dress, in the middle of the path.

vyAkhyAnam

madi vazhi vandhu nIrp pulan sOra – upon seeing the messengers of yama, out of fear, urine will start flowing on account of an organ of sense.

vAyil attiya kanjiyum mINdE kadai vazhi vArak kaNdam adaippa – when rice gruel is given to the person, since his throat is choking, the gruel will not flow into the neck, but will drip down from a corner of the mouth.

kaN uRakkam adhu Avadhan munnam – before deep sleep sets in [final moments in one’s life]

thodai vazhi ummai nAygaL kavarA – this is the result of doing, as in periya thirumozhi 1.6.6nAyinaththodum thiLaiththittu Odiyum uzhanRum” (having enjoyed hunting with dogs, running afar, anguishing and killing creatures), making others to suffer and killing them.

sUlaththAL ummaip pAyvadhum seyyAr – this is the result of killing others, with weapons.

idaivazhyil nIr kURaiyum izhavIr – this is the result of removing the dress of others. They [the messengers of yama] will keep saying these [that this is the result of what you had done, on earth, to others] and hurt you on the way. If you wish to escape from all these …

irudIkEsan enRu Eththa valleerEl – If you are capable of worshipping one, who controls our senses, with affection, these incidents will not come your way. The reason for being controlled by yama is our being under the control of our senses [when we were on earth]. Hurting others is because of being under the control of senses. AzhwAr says that emperumAn will destroy that.

We shall next consider the 6th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
