Simple Translation
hanuman, who has eminence and power, had seen sIthAp pirAtti, who had bosoms covered with bodice and who had simplicity. periyAzhwAr, the controller of those living in SrI villibuththUr and whose fame had spread throughout earth, had mercifully composed as pAsurams, the words of hanuman, which he had analysed and had spoken to pirAtti as identifications such that she would have confidence in his words. Those who are capable of reciting these pAsurams will get to live with nithyasUris in SrI vaikuNtam, which has all the benefits.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
vArArum … – while they were apt to be together with bodice, the bosoms are now without that. Due to separation [from perumAL], pirAtti was also wizened. She manifested through her indifference to her form that she is the daughter of the king of vidhEha. Seeing such pirAtti.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his svApadhESam, that earlier pirAtti’s bodice was not fitting well with her bosoms [since she was suffering in separation from perumAL and had thinned]. However, after seeing perumAL’s divine ring and keeping it on her head, with the maturity of those thoughts, her bosoms had swelled again and the bodice was fitting well. The term madavAL could refer to the earlier mentioned meaning of one who has become thin due to separation. Or, it could also refer to one of the feminine qualities, madam, simplicity. vaidhEvi thanaik kaNdu – one who is born in the clan which does not give importance to the physical form, whether it becomes filled up or it becomes wizened. thanaik kaNdu – (hanuman) looking at himself, having successfully completed the task of perumAL’s esoteric task, as his servitor. Since he could not see perumAL without seeing her, seeing her now implies that he has seen them together.
sIrArum thiRal anuman– While many leaders [among the monkeys] were present, perumAL decided in his divine mind that “He alone is capable of carrying out the task”, spoke to him about various incidents [to reveal to pirAtti, upon seeing her] and gave hanuman his divine ring. hanuman was complete with many qualities, including knowledge etc and had the power to complete the task which he had set out to do.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai explains the distinctions of hanuman here. (1) Unlike the manner in which perumAL had sent word to sugrIva that the path, in which vAli had been sent, has not been closed [when sugrIva did not contact perumAL at the end of the monsoon season, as he had promised earlier and perumAL became impatient with him], there was no need to send any such message to hanuman. (2) hanuman stayed with perumAL till the end of his [perumAL’s] incarnation. (3) When sugrIva et al told perumAL that vibhIshaNa should be killed, when vibhIshaNa came to surrender to perumAL, hanuman alone spoke against that and gave a fresh breath of life to perumAL as well as to sugrIva et al, who are affectionate towards perumAL. (4) When iLaiya perumAL came in anger to warn sugrIva about the delay in fulfilling his word [to help SrI rAma in finding pirAtti’s location], it was hanuman who made thArA and sugrIva to surrender to lakshmaNa and calmed down iLaiya perumAL, as mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam kishkindhA kANdam 33.40 “kim kOpa mUlam manujEndhra puthra” (Oh, prince! What is the reason for your anger?) Arum – before these qualities came to hanuman to repose in him forever, they came in a celebratory manner. thiRal – when some medicinal plants were to be brought [from sanjIvani parvatham] for reviving perumAL and iLaiya perumAL, hanuman brought the entire mountain [to cut short the time in finding out where the plants are located in the mountain]. Such was his capability. Also, he deftly handled the hurdles which came his way when he brought the mountain. anuman – one who is capable of sustaining scars of valour.
therindhu uraiththa adiyALam – all the identifications which perumAL had told hanuman, which he had analysed and informed to pirAtti such that she developed confidence in him.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that among the various incidents confided in him by perumAL, hanuman analysed and decided to reveal only those which will bring confidence to pirAtti in him.
pArArum … – those who are capable of reciting these ten pAsurams, which have been mercifully composed by periyAzhwAr, who is the controller of SrI villibuththUr and whose fame has spread throughout the world, with his pathos …
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that these ten pAsurams manifest the distinctions of perumAL, pirAtti and hanuman. Those who are capable of reciting these pAsurams, with the pathos of periyAzhwAr …
ErArum … – in paramapadham, which has all the eminence, and just as it has been mentioned in thiruvAimozhi 10.9.11 “adiyarOdu irundhamai” (being present with nithyasUris and mukthAthmAs), they will be together with nithyasUris who carry out kainkaryam permanently to emperumAn and enjoy him.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that they will get to surround emperumAn and carry out mangaLASAsanam forever.
This completes the third centum of periyAzhwAr thirumozhi.
We shall next consider the pravESam of the next thirumozhi.
