Simple Translation
In an earlier time [krutha yugam], emperumAn had torn the chest of monster hiraNya kashyap, who had only hatred. Such emperumAn [in dhwApara yugam] incarnated as krishNa and suckled on the bosom of pUthanA, who had a splendour about her as a result of her cruelty, so hard, that her life itself got removed. Such krishNa, after drinking her milk, slept as if he did not know anything about what had happened. yaSOdhAp pirAtti is calling her friends, who had well-rounded bosoms, to come and have a look at the divine thighs of krishNa.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
piRangiya pEychchi mulai suvaiththu uNdittu – pUthanA had a splendour about her, which came about, not because of her beauty or her good thoughts, but because of her cruelty. krishNa suckled hard on her bosom such that along with her milk, her life too came out of her bosom. The term uNdittu is to be treated as a single word and not as a compounded form of uNdu and ittu.
uRanguvAn pOlE kidandha ippiLLai – this little infant krishNa is lying as if he did not know about the valorous deed which he had carried out in killing that pUthanA.
maRangoL … – during krutha yugam, the monster hiraNya kashyap had hatred for his son, prahlAdhan [since prahlAdhan showed his devotion towards emperumAn]. emperumAn [as narasimha] kept hiraNyan on his thighs and tore the chest of that monster. Such emperumAn, who is lying now as krishNa, carries resemblance to that act, in his thighs. Come and have a look at such divine thighs.
kuvi mulaiyIr vandhu kANIrE – Oh women who have well rounded bosoms! Come and have a look at his divine thighs.
In his svApadhESam, thiruvAimozhip piLLai says that when yaSOdhAp pirAtti is calling her friends to come and have a look at krishNa’s divine thighs, it appeared that those thighs still carried blood stains [formed when he, as narasimha, had kept the monster hiraNya on his lap and torn his chest]. The reason for recalling that incident now is because of exhibiting ability to eliminate enemy [hiraNya kashyap for narasimhan and pUthanA for krishNa] and also because both are incarnations of the same SrIman nArAyaNa. Alternatively, when yaSOdhAp pirAtti was hugging krishNa as her nature, since she admired his divine thighs, she was calling other herd-women to come and have a look at his thighs. The reason for describing their bosoms as well rounded is because bosoms represent devotion towards emperumAn and when they are well rounded, the devotion is being nurtured well.
We shall next consider the 6th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
