Simple Translation

ANdAL is the divine daughter of periyAzhwAr, who is the head of SrIvillipuththUr and who is praised by those who came in the clan of brAhmaNas. She had mercifully composed ten pAsurams, which are garlands in thamizh, which describe the events which she had dreamt of, conducted during her marriage with krishNa. Those who are capable of reciting these ten pAsurams will get eminent children with distinguished qualities and will be happy.

vyAkyAnam (Commenary)

AyanukkAath thAN kaNda kanAvinai – the dream in which she became the ordained consort of cowherd kaNNa pirAn. Alternatively, just as she had mercifully said in thiruppAvai 29unakkE nAm AtseyvOm” (We shall be subservient only to you), this could be considered as her dream in which she became instrumental to be the benefit for him. just as it has been mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 66-10 “chiram jIvathi vaidhEhi yadhi mAsam dharishyathi l na jIvEyam kshaNamapi vinA thAmasithEkshaNAm ll” (If sIthai could sustain herself for one month, she would be considered as having sustained herself for a very long time; without her, who has dark eyes, I will not sustain myself for more than a moment), isn’t this the benefit for emperumAn who could not live without her even for a moment! Isn’t it emperumAn’s benefit to attain his follower since he cannot sustain himself without her even for a moment? He is not capable of living for a month in separation, just as pirAtti did, as mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam thsundhara kANdam 36-67 “jIvitham dhArayishyAmi mAsam dhaSarathAjmaja! l Urdhvam mAsAn na jIvEyam sthyEnAham bravImi thE ll” (Oh, the great one! I will sustain my life for one month; I take a vow in your name that I will not be alive for more than a month).

vEyar pugazh villipuththUr kOn kOdhai sol – periyAzhwAr is praised by the brAhmaNas in SrIvillipuththUr as “Most trustworthy person who speaks only the truth”. The divine verses composed by his divine daughter, ANdAL

thUya thamizh mAlai – She had visualised these events, through her mind, in her dream. The experiences which she had, translated into verses, are like pure garland in thamizh. These are not like the other poems which are sung after attempting to join words formed in the mind.

Iraindhum vallavar, vAyu nanmakkaLaip peRRu magizhvarE – If those who recite these ten pAsurams, knowing their meanings, are ladies with the same age as ANdAL, they will attain husbands who are beautiful, like kaNNan. If they are married women or men, they will beget children or disciples, like periyAzhwAr did, who have deep devotion towards emperumAn. Didn’t periyAzhwAr too mercifully say in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 1-7-11 “mAyan maNivaNNan thAL paNiyum makkaLaip peRuvargaLE” (They will beget children who are capable of worshipping the divine feet of emperumAn who has amazing activities and who has a bluish gemstone like divine form)!

Next, we will consider the pravESam (introduction) for the seventh decad.
