Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
thAm – Though he is omniscient on his own. Though Sruthi and smrithi declare as in muNdaka upanishath “yassarvagya: sarvavith” (one who knows the basic nature and basic qualities of all entities) and in SvEthASvathara upanishath “… parAsya Sakthir vividhaiva SrUyathE SvAbhAvikI gyAna bala kriyAcha” (that supreme bhagavAn who has full ability and natural knowledge, strength etc).
tham perumai aRiyAr – His devotees would enjoy him and will become immersed in him saying “What a simplicity of his, presenting himself in a humble way for his devotees!” But he cannot understand his greatness.
thUdhu … – As said in periya thirumozhi 2.2.3 “innAr thUdhan ena ninRAn” (to have the residents of this vast earth say “he is the messenger of pANdavas”) and thiruvAimozhi 6.6.4 “nAdudai mannarkkuth thUdhu sel nambikku” (he went as the messenger on behalf of pANdavas, the kings who are the leaders of the kingdom and hence became fully complete) – for the sake of others, he minimized his own stature and went as a messenger. Even those who are very lowly, will not agree to go as a messenger for others; unlike that he went as a messenger for those pANdavas who were declared by him as the kings.
vEndhar Ur pOlum – Though he minimized his own stature, there is none who would think of him in a lowly manner; his greatness is additionally appearing to be great due to his being king of kings.
kAndhaL … – The ladies who are distinguished in all manner, due to having reddish kAndhaL flower like fingers and wearing soft clothes.
kUndhal kamazhum kUdalUrE – Though this abode is the residence of the one who is praised in chAndhOgya upanishath as “sarvagandha:” (the origin of all fragrances), the fragrance from the hair of the ladies will suppress his fragrance and spread everywhere.
