Simple Translation

Just as nectar flows into a dirty pit, keep the divine name of emperumAn, who is obedient and who has a divine complexion, like that of a cloud, for your child, who is the result of the union of reproductive fluids. After that, synchronise yourself with emperumAn, mingle with him, and follow him, dancing with him to your heart’s content. Repeatedly calling out his divine name will be apt for your tongue. The mother of such a child will not enter narakam.

vyAkhyAnam

Uththaik kuzhiyil amudham pAyvadhu pOl – A pit is full of dirt and is unfit to be touched by noble people. Just as nectar flows into that dirty pit …

thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says the following: In the front yard of the house is a pit, which is dirty, muddy and to be banned. Inside it flows nectar, which is fragrant, pure, enjoyable, white, capable of getting us across narakam [hell], capable of winning over death, apt for us to have it and desired by all the people of the world. Naming your child, who is the result of the union of two reproductive fluids, who stays inside the dirty womb and who comes out with dirty fluids during birth, after emperumAn’s divine name is similar to nectar flowing into the dirty pit.

ungaL mUththirap piLLaiyai – For your child, who is the result of the union of reproductive fluids

en mugil vaNNan pEr ittu – keeping the divine name, which is the most distinguished and enjoyable, of one, who is obedient to me and who has a divine complexion, matching a cloud in the bluish sky. Through this, AzhwAr has mercifully mentioned about the lowliness of the entity for whom the divine name has been kept as well as the distinction of emperumAn’s divine name. When nectar flows in a dirty pit, it will become dirty and it will be unfit to be consumed for apt people. However, since the divine name is a sparSavEdhi [touchstone, one, which will transform base metals such as iron etc into gold], it will not have any flaw due to association with a lowly entity, and it will also purify the entity with which it is associated, making it to be appreciated by distinguished people too. This is the difference between the metaphor, nectar, and the subject of comparison, the divine name of emperumAn.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that emperumAn has made himself to be apt for AzhwAr, being obedient to AzhwAr such that AzhwAr could claim emperumAn as en mugil vaNNan, leaving his protection with AzhwAr.

kOththuk kuzhaiththuk kuNAlamittuth [kuNAlamAdith] thiriminO – Synchronise yourself with emperumAn, mingle with him, follow him and dance with him. In other words, once you have kept the divine name of emperumAn for your child, emperumAn has accepted you. With that connection, you could mingle with him, dance with him and follow him, to your heart’s content.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that AzhwAr had said in thiruppallANdu 3engal kuzhuvinil pugudhalottOm” [we will not allow you to enter our assembly]. This was due to the fact that those people did not come under his affection. Here, AzhwAr says that since you have named your child after the one who is affectionate towards us, you could join with us, recite the divine names of emperumAn with us, mingle your heart with ours and dance with us; also, you could dance with the one who has us as his wealth.

nAththagum – Keeping the divine name of emperumAn for your child and calling that divine name repeatedly, will be apt for your tongue. Tongue is present only for reciting the divine names of emperumAn. Alternatively, as mentioned in SrI vishNu dharmam “sA jihvA yA harim sthauthi” [that which praises hari is referred to as tongue], the apt entity for the tongue is nArAyaNan.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that if you do this, it will be apt for your tongue. If you avoid servitude to others and food to be rejected, you will earn the qualification to be emperumAn’s servitor and to receive his divine food. You will also get the benefit of having been provided with a tongue.

nAraNan tham annai naragam pugAL – thus, the mother of the child will not come under the control of yama and will not enter narakam [hell]
