pravESam
In the earlier thirumozhi [divine verses], the divine mother saw the affection which her daughter had towards krishNa. She had a doubt as to whether her daughter had anything to do with gOvindhan [one who tends to cows, krishNa]. Her initial doubt that she had united with him was confirmed through various reasons. Her relatives too found out the maturing nature of her affection and told her “Before the people of the world blame us for her condition, take her and leave her with the one who measured all the worlds”. Since the mother did not carry out their words immediately, he [krishNa] came in advance; just as it has been mentioned in periya thirumozhi 3.7.1 “kaLvan kol? yAn aRiyEn” (Is he a thief or the owner? I do not know), he took her out with him, to his divine abode of thiruvAyppAdi, hiding her through one end of the dress. The divine mother found out that her daughter is missing from her bed. She was sure that “Apart from him, none would have taken her out” and that “He has taken her only to thiruvAyppAdi”. The mother started saying “After her departure, the house has lost all its beauty and has become empty”. She started wondering “Will his taking her in an irregular manner, be a matter of calumny or an act of chivalry?” “Wil her marriage be conducted properly there?” ”Will yaSOdhAp pirAtti, her mother-in-law, be happy seeing her and be considerate towards her?” “Will SrI nandhagOpar, her father-in-law, hug her warmly and, looking at her distinct features, wonder whether her mother would be able to sustain herself hereafter?” “Will he unite with her, considering her to have come from a lowly clan [since she came with him in the middle of the night, without informing her mother too] and live with her? Will he marry her, with all the people in the place and surrounding places knowing about it and live with her?” “Due to his eminence [being the supreme entity], will he speak low of her form, her qualities and her faults, speak ill of her eminence and keep her under his control? Will he marry her as per the customs of his clan [as well as her clan, since both are from the clan of herd-people] and keep her in an esteemed manner in front of his earlier consorts?” “Is she capable of carrying out tough tasks such as churning curd, milking cows etc and lead a harmonious life?” Thus, this thirumozhi describes the framework of the mother, in this manner.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says the following: In the earlier thirumozhi, the mother was suspecting whether her daughter had anything to do with gOvindhan, who has no faults in him. She became sure that her daughter had united with nArAyaNan, which is an insignificant name for emperumAn [his most significant name is gOvindhan], after being totally infatuated with him. Even after getting this clarity, since she did not take her daughter to him, he too felt saddened that the mother had not brought her daughter [his consort] to him. Becoming firm that “We will not let go of the entity who had come to us”, krishNa, just as he had said in various contexts “dhadhAmi” “smarAmi” “nayAmi” [in the 10th chapter of bhagavath gIthA, he had said dhadhAmi budhdhi yOgam, (that he gives knowledge about himself to his follower). Later, towards his last stages, even if the follower, who has surrendered to him, forgets to remember him, emperumAn says, in varAha charama SlOkam “aham smarAmi madh bhaktham nayAmi paramAm gathim” (I remember my devotee and take him to supreme abode)], gives her knowledge about him, and when she does not remember to come to him, he remembers that she is his wealth and takes her to his favourite abode of thiruvAyppAdi. The mother determines, after seeing that her daughter is not on her bed, that there is no one other than krishNa, who has taken her and that there is no place of residence for them other than thiruvAyppAdi. She wonders whether her relatives would calumniate her for this incident or praise her. She also wonders “After she [her daughter] has gone to thiruvAyppAdi, will he [krishNa] and his relatives support her or vilify her?” AzhwAr recounts the incidents which happened when the mother went about enquiring about her daughter on the way to thiruvAyppAdi and takes it to the boundary of mangaLASAsanam, in this thirumozhi.
