Simple Translation

Oh, one who tore the mouth of the monster bakAsuran! Oh, one who snapped the tusk of elephant kuvalayApeedam, which came to fight against you! Oh, one who had severed the nose of the deceptive demon sUrppaNakhA and the heads of protector of demons, rAvaNa! When you were consuming butter by scooping it, without fearing for your tender divine form, I beat you. Tolerating what I had done, you should come to don the red water-lily which has blossomed in clear waters.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

puLLinai … – Oh, one who tore the mouth of bakAsuran who came in the form of a bird, with the intention of harming you when you were grazing calves, just as it has been mentioned in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 2.5.4paLLaththil mEyum paRavai urukkoNdu” (taking the form of bird which looks for prey in low level water-bodies)!

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his svApadhESam, that AzhwAr says that the purpose for both incarnations [SrI rAmAvathAram and krishNAvathAram] is to annihilate enemies. He says that krishNa had effortlessly torn the mouth of bakAsuran.

poru … – kamsan had invited krishNa to come for an auspicious function. However, he placed an elephant on the way, to harm krishNa. Oh, one who effortlessly snapped the tusks of that elephant, which came upon you to fight!

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the elephant had been kept in a deceptive manner [krishNa had been invited for an auspicious purpose but the elephant was made to stand in the way, with the intention of harming him].

kaLLa … – the demon sUrppaNakhA, came in a deceptive form, saying, as in siRiya thirumadal 35 “sIdhaikku nErAvan” (one who said “I am equal to sIthA”) that she was equal to sIthAp pirAtti. Oh, one who severed her nose as well as the heads of rAvaNa, her protector! Since rAvaNa had told sUrppaNakhA “Roam around wherever you wish”, he is termed as her protector. Alternatively, he could be termed as the protector, in general, for the clan of demons. The meaning hinted in all these [destroying inimical entities] is that emperumAn effortlessly removes his famous enemies and offers himself to those who enjoy him.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the demon [sUrppaNakhA] came with a deceptive form, just as pUthanA and Sakata had done.

aLLi … – I had been waiting for you [before you were born], thinking “When will he consume butter, scooping it?” Having given birth to you, when you indeed consumed butter, scooping it, without caring for your tender form, adiyEn (the servitor), beat you. When one feels sorry for an improper action carried out, it is normal to say adiyEn. Instead of thinking about this [his tender form] before beating him, the reason for her beating him was in fear of having to listen to words of slander from others, when krishNa would do this [surreptitiously eating butter] elsewhere.

theLLiya … – however, putting up with my action [of beating you], you should come such that I could bedeck you with red water-lily flowers, which are distinguished in terms of their colour and fragrance, having blossomed in fresh waters, before they lose their freshness.
