pravESam

In the earlier thirumozhi (4.8), AzhwAr saw the divine qualities and activities of krishNAvathAram, as well as the divine qualities and activities of SrI rAmAvathAram, along with the divine qualities and activities of other avathArams [such as varAha, narasimha et al], shining brightly on periya perumAL. He enjoyed all these, individually. Since thadhIya vishayam [the matters regarding emperumAn’s followers or his divine abode] are more acceptable than thath vishayam [matters regarding emperumAn himself], AzhwAr enjoyed the eminence of SrIrangam, emperumAn’s divine abode, through many faces. Not being satisfied, despite doing these, desiring to enjoy both again [perumAL and the divine abode], instead of enjoying in the manner in which he had enjoyed in the earlier thirumozhi, he looks at the distinguished, divine qualities, activities of periya perumAL through other angles, becoming amazed. In this thirumozhi, he enjoys those, along with the distinguished narratives about the divine abode of SrIrangam, from a different perspective from the earlier one.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says the following: In the earlier thirumozhi, AzhwAr enjoyed about emperumAn’s divine qualities and activities through pAsurams such as “thiruvALan thiruppadhi” (4.8.10), “uru uruvE koduththAn”(4.8.1), “iRaippozhudhil koNarndhu koduththu” (4.8.2), “ellai illAth thraNiyaiyum avuNanaiyum idandhAn” (4.8.8), giving life to the descendent of his nephew, who was like a burnt log as well as lives to the pANdavas, who were the antecedents (4.8.3). AzhwAr says in this thirumozhi that it is more difficult to create Athma guNam (the qualities of SEshathvam, pArathanthryam etc] in a person than carrying out these activities, and more difficult than carrying out, through an infinitesimal part of his divine vow, the activities of creation, protection and destruction, giving mOksham and controlling a person by remaining as antharyAmi [indwelling soul].
