Simple Translation
Oh, one who is holding the divine conch, SrI pAnchajanyam, and the divine disc on your divine hands, and reclining on the mattress of AdhiSEshan in SrIrangam! The servitors of yama will be waiting, folding their tongues in severe anger, to punish me, the great sinner, through many punishments. You are capable of deceptively hiding yourself in a unique manner such that when they pull me through the path, my mind cannot think even a little bit regarding you. Hene, during this time itself, when my senses are under my control, I mentioned to you that you should mercifully hold me in your divine mind at the time when the AthmA separates from the physical form.
vyAkhyAnam
sAmidaththu – during the time when the physical form separates. AzhwAr clearly mentions here, the term which he had used in the earlier pAsuram “ellAm sOrvidam” (when the sensory organs become fatigued).
In the svApadhESam, it is mentioned as: when liberation from the physical form takes place, you should mercifully think about my nature, in your divine mind. You indeed know about my nature.
ennai – me, who is bewildered by the three disorders [of wind, bile and phlegm], and is incapable of thinking about you
kuRikkoL kaNdAy – do not neglect me since I am bewildered; shower mercy on me, through your divine mind. Alternatively, since I have surrendered to your divine feet now, fearing being tortured by the servitors of yama later, you should shower your mercy on me then, with your divine mind.
sangodu chakkaram EndhinAnE – Oh, one who is holding the divine conch, SrI pAnchajanyam, and the divine disc [SrI sudharSana AzhwAn] continuously, not tolerating any delay in protecting your followers! AzhwAr is one, who constantly carries out mangaLASAsanam [wishing well] for emperumAn, reversing the roles of protector-protected [normally, emperumAn is the protector and all the others are protected; however, with AzhwAr, he assumes the role of protector, considering emperumAn as an entity to be protected]; he also praises the divine weapons for their beauty. Now, he is considering emperumAn as the protector and the divine weapons as implements for carrying out protection, due to the fear [of his final stages]. He is mercifully mentioning the reason for the fear [in the next word].
In the svApadhESam, it is mentioned as: Oh, one who is holding the divine SrI pAnchajanyam and the divine disc, which are meant for beauty and for masculinity! When AzhwAr sees the divine hands of emperumAn and the AzhwArs [the divine weapons are considered as AzhwArs], he will not remain without showing his affection for them.
nAmadiththu … – Due to excessive anger, the servitors of yama fold their tongues, waiting to carry out many punishments on me, in line with my karmas [past deeds]. These servitors of yama will manifest themselves only to the chEthanan [one, with the ability to think] who is in his final stages, and not to others who are around the chEthanan.
In the svApadhESam, it is mentioned as: The servitors of yama will think of the past faults in the AthmA, fold their tongues and press their teeth together, in anger, and will wait for the suitable time for meting out many punishments.
pOmidaththu – when the servitors of yama drag me along the way
un thiRaththu eththanaiyum pugA vaNNam niRpadhOr mAyai vallai – You are capable of indulging in a deceit, hiding yourself, such that this AthmA cannot think of you, even a little bit.
AmidaththE unnaich cholli vaiththEn – Hence, at a time when my sensory organs are still under my control, I have prayed to you “sAmidaththu ennaik kuRikkoL kaNdAy”.
arangaththu aravaNaip paLLiyAnE – Oh, one who is reclining on the divine mattress of thiruvananthAzhwAn, in SrIrangam, analysing constantly about the protection of these AthmAs, and has arrived here much in advance.
In the svApadhESam, it is mentioned that emperumAn is reclining in SrIrangam such that AzhwAr could appeal to him, since he is in proximity.
We shall next consider the 3rd pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
