Simple translation
Oh mind! What is the use of remaining here, thinking and melting? Previously, one day, he made my great desire towards him increase under the shade of thAzhai (screw-pine) which are having flowers with beetles consuming the honey, and then separated; the abode of such emperumAn is thiruppullANi where the ocean is pushing the gemstones near the shore. Worship such thiruppullANi and be uplfted.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
urugi … – Oh mind! What is the use of remaining here and melting? Oh mind! What is the use of remaining here and thinking? Should we not remain in a situation where we can melt him and remain strong? For a person who remains as said in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 36-67? “Urdhvam mAsAn na jIvEyam” (I will not live longer than a month), it is easy to sustain if a person who remains as in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 66-10 “na jIvEyam kshaNamapi” (I cannot live even for a moment) is seen.
nenjE ingE irundhu urugi en – ingu irundhu en – Who knows that we are being destroyed here?
thozhudhum ezhu – To remain without melting, this [worshipping and being uplifted] is required.
murugu vaNduN malar kaidhaiyin neezhal – Even the animals [insects] densely reside there due to having the desires fulfilled. Under the shade of thAzhai (screw-pine) which are having flowers with beetles consuming the honey. [Talks about] The union of those who are present there and drinking of honey subsequent to that union, happens. The honey gives strength for subsequent union. They unite first so that they can unite again. [But] He unites to subsequently separate from me, cause sorrow in me and to keep seeing my suffering.
mun oru nAL – What an unfortunate day that was!
nAL – As soon as parakAla nAyaki thinks about that day when he united and separated, she feels as if she has seen the nAyaka. Today is not the same as that day [There was some joy then, but now, there is only sorrow].
perugu kAdhanmai en uLLam eydhap pirindhAnidam – After causing my heart to have great love towards him, he took himself away and stood far from me.
perugu kAdhal – As said in thiruvAimozhi 10.10.10 “adhanil periya en avA” (Love which is greater than bhagavAn), my love is greater than the all-pervasive lord. Here the minute AthmA [its love] consumes the all-pervasive lord. As he has caused that love, it will remain without shrinking in the same manner. If he, who separated, also has the same love, he would not have separated. Even now, the love has increased and has still not decreased.
pirindhAn – She does not know the divine names of bhagavAn which he has been having. She can only tell what is seen by her [Here, she has given the name “pirindhAn” (one who separated) to bhagavAn]. Just as a person is named “am kamalak kaNNan” (one with beautiful, lotus eyes), just as saying “It is black”, “It is white”, this [having separated] too is an identity for him.
porudhu munnIrk karaikkE maNi undhu pullANiyE – The abode where he has arrived to accomplish his goal, is a place which cannot be abandoned. Even for someone who says “I am going away in search of wealth”, there can be no excuse to leave the abode [since gemstones are pushed into the town]. The radiant pearl spoken about in previous pAsuram is like this.
In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
