Simple translation

In the past, by lifting the gOvardhana mountains and holding it as an umbrella. krishNa protected the herds of cattle using that mountain. Being the lord, he killed and won over the seven bulls which were not joining with each other. He is now mercifully residing in thirukkOvalUr. He fought with those rAkshasas who were not surrendering unto him and were residing in lankA which is in southern direction, to get them killed. He vowed to get yama, who is having a cruel nature to consume them who are remaining firm. If we were to utter such divine name, it is in the form of “namO nArAyaNa

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kudaiyA varaiyAl … – With the varai (montain), he protected nirai (cattle). When he lifted the mountain, he did not consider it as a burden, but held it as effortlessly as holding an umbrella for rain.

perumAn … – Protecting the cows and the cowherd boys, krishNa remained as their lord,

maruvAdha … – One who killed the seven bulls which were not aligning with each other due to being possessed by demons, and are equivalent to mruthyu (yama, death).

kOval … – He is mercifully present in thirukkOvalUr for those who are saying “that was in different times, we have lost”.

then ilangai … – The demons of lankA told SrI rAma “We will not align with you in any manner”; subsequently, he fought them, to have them killed.

mEvi vengURRam … – In the past, when yama sees the rAkshasas, he will fear; subsequently, he fought with them to finish them due to taking shelter of SrI rAma’s shoulders.

nadaiyA … – If we were to utter the divine name of the one who is having this as his yAthrA (life), it is in the form of “namO nArAyaNa
