Simple translation

Desiring to go to the dhanuryAgam which consists of bows, in SrI mathurA which is in the northern direction, krishNa went there, turned the wrestlers such as chANUra et al, who did not like him, into dust, and then angrily killed kamsan who has rounded, rock like shoulders; he then jumped on the hoods of kALiya; he is the nambi who is eternally residing in thirunaRaiyUr
where countless, distinguished brAhmaNas who have properly learnt vEdham which is having faultless words and are performing sOma yAgam etc and are eagerly engaged in fire rituals, are eternally residing. Such nambi is our refuge.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

villAr … – kamsa being the maternal uncle, brought krishNa to SrI mathurA through the guise of “vil vizhavu” (bow festival), made an elephant stand at the entrance, and thought of pretending to cry and be sorrowful (on getting krishNa killed); krishNa, instead of being ignorant about it, knowing every one of kamsa’s evil plans from the beginning, disregarding that, entered joyfully, considering the “vil vizhavu” occurrence.

virumbA mal adarththu – Killing the group of wrestlers who had no affection/devotion towards krishNa.

kal Ar … – krishNa gave the result, which was desired by kamsan who had strong shoulders, to kamsan and killed him.

kALiyan mEl pAyndhAn – Just as krishNa jumped on kamsan’s back, he jumped on kALiyan’s hoods as well.

sol Ar … – Learning the vEdhams which are faultless due to not being composed by any person, in the proper manner. These brAhmaNas are not mere learners of vEdham but also follow the principles shown in such vEdham. And, not every now and then, but continuously, having that learning and practicing as the routine. And finally, they are distinguished due to the fact that they don’t learn and practice for any benefit other than giving joy for bhagavAn.
