avathArikai (Introduction)
This pAsuram mentions about the servitude carried out by a group of prominent celestial entities, who are under indhran. In his svApadhESam, thiruvAimozhip piLLai says: Is it only this much? [in continuation of the previous pAsuram where indhran had sent his gifts] All the celestial entities too came with materials in their hands, just as it has been said “riktha pANisthu nOpEyAth rAjAnAm dhivatham gurum” (one should not go empty handed when visiting a king or deity or AchArya [teacher]). krishNa himself is all of these; hence they went with several gifts.

Oh, one who has reddish, divine eyes and who has the form of a dark cloud! May you go to sleep. Oh, one who was born from dhEvakip pirAtti’s stomach, and who is like a lion cub! May you go to sleep.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
sangu … – conch which is curled on the right side, which is the most eminent among conches and which is full of auspiciousness, anklets which are apt to be adorned on the reddish, divine feet; since the verse is “sEvadik kiNkiNiyum”, the term kiNkiNi refers to anklet.
angaich chari … – bracelets, which are most apt for the divine forearms and rings for the divine shoulders, cord which is apt to be adorned on the divine chest and string of beads around the waist. Alternatively, since it is together with the araiththodar, the term nAN could refer to waist cord.
angaN … – celestial entities who inhabit beautiful and expansive worlds such as svargam etc, sent these materials as their servitude.
sengaN … – Oh, one who is together with the divine reddish eyes and a dark form which appears like a dark cloud which has blossomed lotus flower, such that your form does not need any decorative ornaments! May you go to sleep.
dhEvaki … – due to having been born from the stomach of dhEvakip pirAtti, one who has the arrogance of a lion cub! May you go to sleep. thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa is well known as the son of dhEvaki. This is also mentioned in vEdhas [mahAnArAyaNOpanishath]. The eminence for this is that this has been mercifully mentioned by AzhwAr.
We shall next consider the 5th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
