If one becomes weak with the eyes having dirt and become dizzy, and mucus is overflowing, women who have speech which is sweeter than beautiful tune will say “You walk away from here slowly”. Oh heart! Before that happens, we will reach thirunaRaiyUr which is eternal, beloved abode of sarvESvaran who is having sky and mountains as his prakAram (form), who is revealed in vEdham and worshipped through various rituals. Let us go.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kaNNum suzhanRu … – After losing the principal which is youth, which made a person roam around freely and enjoying, the fleshy eyes will become incapable to clearly see any object and be dizzy. Just as dust/dirt will gather when there is a flood, the dirt in the eyes gather together. Further, mucus forms and will make the person weak to even complete the sentence which was begun. At that time, the girls who can speak sweeter than a tune, will tell “Why don’t you walk away slowly (as you have aged)?”. Before they disregard the person in this manner.

viNNum … – AkASam (sky/ether) which came first among the pancha bhUthams which are causes for subsequent creation, mountain which is a transformation of earth which came subsequently. AzhwAr includes AkASa as a sample for causal elements and mountain for effectual elements. With these two, bhagavAn being present with the entire creation as his form is explained.

vEdhamum – In this manner, bhagavAn who is having the entire creation as his form, is the one who is revealed in vEdham. chAndhOgya upanishath says “sarvam kalvidham brahma” (Whatever we see here is brahmam, i.e., brahmam’s body).

vELviyum … – bhagavAn who is the goal of all ritualistic worship which are spoken in such vEdham, has arrived and is residing in thirunaRaiyUr for the protection of samsAris (materialistic people). Let us reach that thirunaRaiyUr. Please agree and cooperate with me. Thus says AzhwAr to his own divine heart.
