Being the antharAthmA of pancha bhUthams, viz. faultless earth, fire, air, water and abundant ether, being the controller of the four states of mind/body such as jAgratha (awake and faultless), sushupthi (deep sleep), svapna (dream) and maraNa (death), being sarvESvaran, the lord became fearful with a softened heart as mother yaSOdhA became angry, (and previously) mercifully consumed curd and danced with pots and who is having expansive divine chest and is complete with natural, auspicious qualities; he is eternally residing in the dhivyadhESam with the divine name nandhipura viNNagaram. Oh heart! Try to reach there.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
thIdhaRu … – Being the antharAthmA of pancha bhUthams starting with earth which is faultless due to being the place from where chEthanas (souls) can attain enjoyment or liberation, sarvESvaran who is being the controller of faultless mind, svapna (dream), sushupthi (deep sleep) and maraNam (death).
Previously (in the first portion of the pAsuram), bhagavAn being antharAthmA and protecting others is explained; subsequently, bhagavAn incarnating to be seen by our eyes and protecting others is explained.
thAy … – As yaSOdhA, the mother, became angry and lifted a stick, here krishNa’s torment in front of that is explained. Whatever may be the result, he would not give up curd, which sustains him.
thayir uNdu – bhagavAn who is self-satisfied, consumed butter which has the touch of favourable persons (devotees) and became joyful; to let out that joy, he danced with pots; he remains in a form which reveals such complete enjoyment.
thagai sEr nAdhan – As said in SrI rAmAyaNam ayOdhyA kANdam 2.13 “thrailOkyamapi nAthEna yEna syAnnAthavaththaram” (If SrI rAma becomes the lord, the three worlds also will have the best master), those who are protected will be less and the shadow under sarvESvaran’s shoulder will be more; such sarvESvaran is eternally residing in this dhivyadhESam, unlike avathArams where he left after a stipulated period of time.
In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
