Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

UzhiyAy … – Being the controller of all the entities which are indicated by time, being the worshippable entity of all rituals as said in SrI bhagavath gIthA 9.24aham hi sarvayagyAnAm bhokthA cha prabhur Eva cha” (I am only the enjoyer and the benefactor of all yagyas) and SrI bhagavath gIthA 5.29bhOkthAram yagyathapasAm” (one who accepts yagya (sacrifices) and thapas (penances)); being the antharyAmi of sun who is having one wheel and thus being the focus of upAsana (worship); he eliminated the sorrow of SrI gajEndhrAzhwAn who was in exultation and roaming around with caparison; he shot his killer arrows to have the residents of lankA suffer by having to share one garment among seven persons; showing mercy towards very strong arjuna, to have sun’s radiance diminish, in the [day] time which is apt for his radiance, he covered the sun with his divine chakra which has the radiance of thousand suns. Since the radiance of the worldly sun is limited, it will eliminate darkness; unlike that, the radiance of thiruvAzhi AzhwAn (sudharSana chakra) cannot be seen directly and hence it blinded everyone’s eyes.
