Simple translation
Placing the vast and tall manthara mountain as the churning staff, coiling the snake vAsuki around it, to have the vast and lengthy ocean cry out, to have the waves which are formed in it reach the middle of the sky and pervade, and to have the worlds such as heaven which are at a far distance, moon, other radiant objects and dhEvathAs become amazed simultaneously, bhagavAn churned the ocean which is agitated with waves, with his thousand shoulders. Such bhagavAn is mercifully resting in this town of SrIrangam.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
mAyirum … – Having manthara mountain which is not short of vastness and height, coiling vAsuki’s body around it, to have the vast and lengthy ocean cry out like an elephant’s roar, and due to the agitation at that time, the waves which were formed reached up to the sky, filling it; to have worlds such as vast heaven etc which are far away from here, moon, other radiant objects, other dhEvathAs, to be amazed amazed, bhagavAn churned the ocean.
Ayiram thOLAl … – Though he churned with four shoulders, [due to the pace at which he was churning] it appeared like he churned with thousand shoulders.
