Simple translation

bhagavAn rode on garudAzhwAr when the rAkshasas, who did not align with his thoughts, engaged in a battle to destroy them. He held his very strong bow in his divine hand to make the head of mAli, who has huge shoulder strength, roll on the ground. Through this, he made the rAkshasas to gather the other rAkshasas from the town of lankA, which is in the southern direction, to enter the pAthALa which is pervaded by beauty and hide there. Let us worship such lord’s divine abode known as thirukkaNNapuram.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

porundhA … – Even if bhagvAn remained fully favourable towards them, the rAkshasa clan was firm on non-alignment; to have them killed in the battle, bhagavAn rode garudAzhwAr, made the head of mAli, who has huge shoulder strength, roll on the ground; he also made the other rAkshasas take along the rAkshasas of lankA which remain as an ant-hill, filled with evil people always, and enter into the pAthALa which is an enjoyable abode and hide there. He did that by holding his very strong bow in his divine hands. Let us worship thirukkaNNapuram, which is the abode of such lord.
