On such sarvESvaran, thirumangai AzhwAr, who can wield the stained and lengthy spear and who is the leader of the thiruvAli region, mercifully spoke the ten sweet pAsurams which are made of one plus four plus five pAsurams, with tune. Those who are able to recite these pAsurams will become dhEvathAs who can rule over the worlds which are surrounded by the resounding ocean.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
panRiyAy … – If protecting the devotees is the task to be done, he would do it without caring for him.
pArai … – Creating the earth. In the form of mahAvarAham etc
kAththu …– Protecting the earth. Again, as the deluge occurs, he protects the earth by keeping it in his stomach. Subsequently, lets it out. In this manner, while protecting in every aspect, if we count him, there is none to be counted along, since he is greater than everyone.
anRu amararkku … – The abode where even brahmA et al, who are prideful, can come and surrender unto him and fulfil their desires. indhran who is the controller of all dhEvathAs, brahmA, who has a distinguished birth than all others and his son, rudhran.
adi paNiya – To surrender unto his divine feet. The supreme lord who is mercifully standing in thiruvazhundhUr.
kanRi nedu vEl … – There is no time to remove the stains after killing the enemies. As said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 100.12 “AlikanthamivAkAsam avashtabhya mahadhdhanu:” (One who is tightly holding the great bow which reaches up to the sky), he is wielding in his hand, the lengthy spear which cannot be held and controlled by anyone. AzhwAr, who is owning thiruvAli region, composed these ten sweet pAsurams, which are having tune. Those who can recite these pAsurams. They are to be enjoyed in groups as said in “onRinodu nAngum Or aindhum” [First pAsuram talks about kshIrAbdhi, four pAsurams (2nd, 4th, 5th and 10th) about incarnations in animal form and five pAsurams (3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th) talk about incarnations in celestial and human forms]. For those who can recite these pAsurams, there is no shortcoming in attaining the post such as brahmA [all of the dhEvathAs are positions held by different AthmAs at different times]. Our AchAryas mercifully explain “Since thirumangai AzhwAr is able to engage wealth in bhagavAn’s purpose, he encouraged acquiring wealth”.
In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
