Simple Translation
krishNa asks yaSOdhAp pirAtti “Did you not tie me down to a mortar, with a circumferential rim, to be seen by everyone, by believing the words of those who appear to say that I had stolen and eaten butter to be true, catching my hand, when I had not stolen butter?” yaSOdhAp pirAtti tells him “Oh, SrIya:pathi! If you keep delaying coming to me, by speaking and laughing about what I had done, while being away from me, [the holes in] your ears will get blocked. See that you wear the cotton thread which is in my hand, such that the girls, who are here, do not make fun of you saying that your ears are blunted”
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
mey … – When yaSOdhAp pirAtti said [as in the previous pAsuram] that she will speak only the truth, after inserting the cotton thread, krishNa tells her “I do not have faith in your words. Aren’t you the one who punishes me, listening to the words of others?” yaSOdhAp pirAtti asks him “Have I done like that?” to which krishNa says mey enRu solluvAr sollaik karudhi – believing the words of those who say “He had stolen and eaten butter”
thiruvAimozhip piLLai describes this, in his svApadhESam, as a conversation between yaSOdhAp pirAtti and krishNa.
yaSOdhAp pirAtti – I have heard from many people that you only have stolen.
krishNa – Is what they say the truth?
yaSOdhAp pirAtti – What they say is not untruth; what you say is not the truth.
krishNa – What did they say?
yaSOdhAp pirAtti – They said that you stole butter; I was wondering whether this is apt for you?
krishNa – Did they see me stealing?
yaSOdhAp pirAtti – Yes, they said that they saw you stealing.
krishNa – If they had seen me, shouldn’t they have caught me in the act and brought me to you?
yaSOdhAp pirAtti – Is it possible for them to catch you? Am I capable of catching you?
krishNa – Did you remain without catching me? Without beating me? Did you not tie me, with all the people in the world, whether they are enemies or friends or the indifferent type, looking at me? Is it not for doing a similar act that you are looking for me?
yaSOdhAp pirAtti – Do not remind me of what I had done before.
krishNa – Should I not say what you had done before?
thoduppuNdAy veNNeyai enRu – you were sustaining yourself on butter through stealing. thoduppu – stealing.
kaiyaip pidiththu … – “You held my hand and with everyone looking at me, tied me down to a heavy mortar which had a rim”, saying this, he smiled. karai ural refers to a mortar with a rim around its circumference.
seydhana … – yaSOdhAp pirAtti tells him “If you keep telling my faults and smiling, wasting the time without coming to me”
sirIdharanE – [the holes pierced in] your ears will get blocked. You should come, at the least, for her [SrI mahAlakshmi’s] sake. Despite that, since he did not come …
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that however young he may be, without addressing him as sirIdhara, he will not lend himself to be controlled.
kaiyil thiriyai … – these girls have the beauty which you desire, they have affection towards you and desire to be in your proximity, without leaving you. I shall insert the cotton thread to increase the hole in your ears so that these girls will not make fun of you saying “Your ears are blunted; they are wasted”.
