Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

paranE – Oh, one who is superior to all!

panjavan … – There are famous chOzha kings who are known as “panjavan”, “pauzhiyan” who are kings for different regions and who are opulent; due to their desire, they came and surrendered unto you and got themsleves fulfilled. Oh, the supreme lord who is mercifully present to help them! Oh, one who is refuge for them!

mAdhavanE – Oh, one who is having purushakAram which will facilitate the fulfilment of their desires!

madhusUdhA – Oh, one who is having the ability to eliminate their enemies!

maRRu Or nal thuNai – I am not having any refuge other than you, who will transform yourself to help those who surrender unto you.

naranE nAraNanE – For the sake of your devotees, oh, you who will perform the penance that will be done by them (such kings) to attain you!

thirunaRaiyUr nambi – Oh, one who is complete in all auspicious qualities and standing in thirunaRaiyUr!

emperumAn – Oh, one who manifested your togetherness with pirAtti there and made me totally existing for you!

umbar ALum aranE – Oh, one who is remaining as the antharyAmi of rudhran to rule over the dhEvathAs who were born after him! It is said in mahAbhAratham AshramavASika parvam 118-37 “rudhram samASrithA dhEvA rudhrO brahmANamASritha: I brahmA mamASrithO rAjan nAham kinchidhupASritha: II” (Oh king! The celestial entities are taking refuge of rudhra; rudhra is taking (his father) brahmA’s refuge; brahmA has taken refuge under me; I have not taken refuge under anyone).

Adhi varAham mun AnAy – Oh, one who incarnated in the beginning of varAha kalpam (one of brahmA’s many days), remained in visibility and protected us directly instead of remaining inside someone else (rudhran) and protecting!

azhundhUr mEl … – Oh, one who is presently residing in thirunaRaiyUr by making that (Adhi varAha incarnation) as old story!
