Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
UnEr Akkai … – AzhwAr is saying that he attained the benefit of bhagavAn’s efforts where bhagavAn incarnated in many forms and pursued AzhwAr. The body which is filled with flesh. Through wrong means, I gathered wealth, nurtured this body and got the result for that.
yAnAy … – bhagavAn thought “If I remain as I am and he remains as he is, if we try to unite with him, he will stop me and avoid me. Hence, let me become part of the word ‘him’ and will unite with him” and being counted in the word “I”, he came and united with me [as antharyAmi, the in-dwelling super-soul].
enRanakkAy – The one who is greater than all, has made himself available for me.
adiyEn … – bhagavAn presented himself to AzhwAr and entered AzhwAr’s heart. As AzhwAr thought about this, he felt joyful.
thEnE – Oh, one who is enjoyable in all ways!
en sindhai … – Instead of accepting another body and attaining bhagavAn in that new body, I who nurtured this body which is filled with flesh, got to attain him in this same body.
When asked “How did that happen?” AzhwAr says
naRaiyUr ninRa nambIyO! – Since you have arrived in thirunaRaiyUr, I attained you now.
