Oh, the complete one who is mercifully residing in thirunaRaiyUr! Oh, the youthful one who is having the narasimha form which is not seen in this world and is present for me mingling with me, and who is able to make my heart to be at your disposal! I will not praise people who are attached to worldly pleasures, with poems as per SAsthram. I will not even analyse anyone other than you in my heart.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
OdA AL ariyAy – In the previous pAsuram, AzhwAr said “puLLAy EnamumAyp pugundhu“. He says “You can choose to take birth in inferior species. But can’t you at least take birth in the species which are seen in this world?” Oh one who is having the narasimha form which is not seen in this world.
maruvi – Right from the day of assuming the narasimha form, bhagavAn is present only in AzhwAr’s heart.
enRan mAdE vandhu – If you are in the supreme abode, can you come to me? [How amazing!]
adiyEn manam koLLa valla maindhA – For you who made my heart to be at your disposal, is it your strength to have made prahlAdhAzhwAn’s heart to be at your disposal? [i.e. It is more difficult to change my heart than to change prahlAdhAzhwAn’s heart]
bhagavAn says “I have done that. Further, what are you going to do?”
pAdEn … – I avoided praising lowly people with poems which have the proper qualities mentioned in SAsthram. “kavidhaip panuval” should be seen as “panuval kavidhai“, where panuval is nUl (SAsthram), that is poems which have no shortcomings as per the qualities mentioned in SAsthram.
nAdEn unnai allAl – I even eliminated the analysis (whether to praise bhagavAn) [and straightaway praised].
naRaiyUr ninRa nambiyO – While you have presented yourself to be enjoyed by my senses, is there any scope for me to enjoy something else, abandoning you?
In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
