Oh, one who is having the ancient fame of gathering and swallowing the perennial ocean and the huge, seven mountains as a handful! Oh benefactor, being my father! I, the servitor, am existing completely for you and keep calling you who are the lord, telling your name. I acquired this great benefit. You should mercifully shower your mercy towards me.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

vaRRA mudhu nIr … – Isn’t my calling out even too much? One, who consumed the world which was taken in by the deluge. For you to protect someone, all you need is for you to know the danger and for the others to not reject you. The earth which was consumed by the deluge drowned and did not call out saying “Please lift me up and protect me”.

vaRRA mudhu nIr … – With the perennial ocean, the seven anchoring mountains, the earth which is the support for those, were casually consumed by you. In this manner, you are going to lose these qualities which you have acquired since long time, by delaying to help me when I cried out.

The differences between the earth which was caught in the deluge and AzhwAr are – being fully determined on bhagavAn, having self-realisation and calling out for him as a refuge-less person.

peRREn … – In my dangerous situation, instead of having to try on my own, I got the great benefit of calling out for you only.

aruL thandhidum … – Now, there is no block for your mercy to flow towards me. You cannot say “While I am ready to do everything for you, you did not cooperate with me”. I have withdrawn from my efforts. Show your mercy. Oh, the lord of my clan!
