Simple translation

The complete sarvESvaran who shot arrows from the burning, very cruel bow to turn the heads and shoulders of the inimical rAkshasas into pieces and who is mercifully present in thirunaRaiyUr where men who are like cupid and skandha and women with spear-like eyes are residing and in the streets of the town where the sounds of nithyOthsavams and naimiththikOthsavams are occurring without a break, accepted me, the natural servitor, to make me knowledgeable about being a servitor and my kainkaryam. Hence, he is our refuge.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

ALum … – bhagavAn accepted the AthmA which is qualified to remain for his divine feet, not to remain for the AthmA, and accepted kainkaryam which is the benefit for being bhagavAn’s possession.

adiyEnai ALum paNiyum koNdAn – Though I am qualified (to be his servitor), instead of making me think that I am independent and thus making me unqualified, he created the thought in me that I am subservient to him. He created the taste towards the result of such subservience – that is, being a servitor.

viNda … – Here, AzhwAr is explaining how bhagavAn is destroying those who have the birth which will protest such servitude towards him. He would wait as much as possible for them to acquire some taste in the servitude and if they continue to remain as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 36-11 “dhvidhA bhajyEyam apyEvam na namEyam . .” (Even if I am broken into two pieces, I will not bend before anyone), without showing any mercy, he will kill them. Severing the shoulders, breaking their legs, severing the head – in this manner, he spends the time and subsequently to kill them using his arrows, he will launch them from his bow which causes fear in the enemies’ stomach just on seeing it, as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam SlOkam 46-22 “dhIptha pAvaka sangkASai: Sithai: kAnchanabhUshaNai: l na thvAmichchAmyaham dhrashtum rAmENa nihatham Sarai: ll” (I do not wish to see you killed by SrI rAma whose arrows are like burning fire, sharp and decorated with gold), he conducted the arrows, which appear like arrows while launching, but while entering the bodies of the enemies, they will appear like fire.

vELum sEyum … – Those who live in thirunaRaiyUr are women who are enjoyers and enjoyable. Men who are comparable to cupid and subrahmaNya in beauty, and the women who can make such men to exist exclusively for them, with their single glance, are residing there.

nALum vizhavin oli OvA … – As said in thiruvAimozhi 7.3.3thingaLum nALum vizhA aRAdha” (thenthiruppEreyil where festivals are happening continuously without a break, every day and month), nambi who is eternally residing in thirunaRaiyUr where daily uthsavams and monthly uthsavams are continuously happening – he accepted my servitude and kainkaryam.
