vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
Udal kUdal – being together with Udal, which is a love-quarrel between the beloveds.
uNardhal – pointing out his mistake saying “You harassed us, by separating from us”. The word uNardhal is a transformation of the word uNarththal, which indicates hinting at or pointing out to.
puNardhalai – [kaNNan is] pacifying them saying “I separated from you all, only to nurture your love towards me”. He offers his apology and unites with them.
mun nIdu ninRa niRai pugazh Aychchiyar kUdalai – the pAsurams which talk about the kUdal engaged with by the cowherd women folk, who have total eminence of engaging in love-quarrel and subsequently uniting with kaNNan as their daily chore. What is total eminence for these women? embAr, one of our preceptors and one of the prime disciples of rAmAnujar, would explain it as follows: one cowherd girl did not show her face to kaNNan for four days and made him to undertake fasting for four days; another girl did the same, for ten days. This is their eminence.
kuzhaRkOdhai kURiya – while she is capable of making him to engage with kUdal in order to attain her, just by the beauty of her locks of hair, she had to compose these pAsurams as an engagement with kUdal.
pAdal paththum vallArkku illai pAvamE – for those who are capable of learning these ten pAsurams, there will be no suffering such as engaging with kUdal, which ANdAL had to suffer. By merely learning this decad, they will attain the benefit of uniting with krishNan.
Next, we will consider the pravESam of fifth decad.
