Oh one who destroyed lankA with a unique bow which was drawn well! Oh my bluish gemstone who has mercifully taken residence in thirukkaNNapuram where bunches of plucked red water-lilies are blossoming all around! Oh one who has deep affection towards your younger brothers! Oh SrI rAma! My lullaby to you.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
thaLai avizhum narum kunjith thayaradhan than kula madhalAy – oh one who is having divine hair which is fragrant and which is such dense that it will get loosened and fall down despite being tied well, and being the one who uplifted the clan of dhaSaratha chakravarthi!
vaLaiya oru silai adhanAl madhiL ilangai azhiththavanE – oh one who destroyed lankA, which was so strong that it will make even eminent weapons such as brahmAsthra (a powerful weapon given by brahmA) to be ineffective, with a unique bow handled by people!
kaLai kazhu nIr marungu alarum kaNapuraththu en karumaNiyE – red water lily plant is a weed for paddy cultivation. When these plants are plucked out of the fields in thirukkaNNapuram by farmers and thrown on the sides, the flowers in them will blossom as if the plants were in their original plantation. Oh one who is mercifully residing in such thirukkaNNapuram and being the epitome of simplicity for me! The term kaLai kazhu nIr marungu alarum refers to the fertile nature of the soil.
iLaiyavargatku aruL udaiyAy – Oh one who showered his affection on younger brothers and those such as guhan, sugrIvan and vibhIshaNan who were like your brothers, saying “If they are not useful to my brothers, I do not need even my sustaining airs”
irAgavanE thAlElO – Oh SrI rAma! My lullabies to you.
We shall take up next, the 10th pAsuram of this decad.
