emperumAn as a mischievous dwarf cheated mahAbali and got full control of the world; he eliminated the sorrow of gajEndhrAzhwAn who was having a trunk with a hole; the dhivyadhESam where the purest sarvESvaran is eternally residing is puLLambUdhangudi where the fish in the low-lying fertile fields jump, the birds enter the fertile fields which are having water-bodies and are searching food for their little ones.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kaLLam … – Accepting the form of vAmana (dwarf) which will not let mahAbali accept the words of Sukra et al who were saying “He is sarvESvaran; he has come to do good for dhEvas; don’t become captivated by him” and accepted the world from mahAbali who was thinking the world, which does not belong to him, as his property.

poLLai … – The abode where emperumAn eliminated the sorrow of gajEndhrAzhwAn who is having a trunk with a hole, and considered his own sorrow to have been eliminated.

paLLam … – In the low-lying fertile fields, fish would jump around due to their pride, the birds will enter those fertile fields which are having water-bodies.

puLLup piLLaikku irai thEdum – It is usually explained by me [vyAkyAthA, periyavAchchAn piLLai] that when AlavAyudaiyAn asked, bhattar mercifully explained this. AlavAyudaiyAn asked “When the fish are jumping around, why should the birds go searching for food?” bhattar mercifully replied “Son! Don’t you understand the situation; birds are searching food for their little ones; due to the nature of the soil, the fish would be well-grown like pillar and heavy (weighing) stone; hence they will look for smaller fish which can be consumed by the little ones”.
