Simple Translation
In the capital town of SrI dhwArakA, sixteen thousand consorts were carrying out servitude forever, for emperumAn, their lord, who had mercifully taken residence there, manifesting his eminence, as their consort, azhagiya maNavALap perumAL. The divine abode, where he has taken residence, is SrIrangam, which has abundance of water bodies. It is also the place where, freshly blossomed lotus flower, thinking that it is like the divine lotus flower on the eminent, divine navel of emperumAn, and having control over everything, will push aside other lotus flowers.
vyAkhyAnam
padhinARAm Ayiravar dhEvimAr paNi seyya – the monster, narakAsuran had held sixteen thousand royal girls as prisoners. After killing him, krishNa brought them and married them such that they could carry out servitude to hm, in line with their deep affection for him and also as a result of attaining him.
thuvarai ennum adhil – even while krishNa was residing in SrI mathurA, with the thought of shifting all the people from SrI mathurA, through his divine vow, he created a highly distinguished capital city, famously known as SrI dhwArakA.
nAyagarAy vIRRIrundha maNavALar – he was lord to each of them, with each thinking “He does not go to anyone other than me”, mercifully residing as the bridegroom, with his distinction clearly visible.
mannu kOyil – this is the divine temple where emperumAn resides forever, mingling with his followers, receiving servitude from them, to be worshipped by his followers, who carry out exclusive servitude to him, and who are for his exclusive enjoyment, wearing the thread of thirumanthram, which has eight yarns [equivalent of eight syllables in thirumanthram] and three strings [equivalent of three words in thirumanthram]. emperumAn stays here forever, unlike incarnations, where he leaves for his abode at the end of the incarnation.
pudhu nAL malark kamalam – lotus flower, which has just then blossomed
emperumAn pon vayiRRil pUvE pOlvAn – thinking that it is matching the lotus flower on the divine, attractive stomach of emperumAn, who is the causative entity for all.
podhu nAyagam pAviththu – taking over the pathos of controller of all. In other words, the lotus flower thinks that it matches the quality of being controller of all since it matches the flower on the one, who is the causative entity of all.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the lotus flower thinks that it is the lord of all. It is the divine temple where emperumAn resides forever, as azhagiya maNavALar, in SrIrangam, where the lotus flower will defeat the golden complexion of the other lotus with its complexion. He says at the end that through this pAsuram that it is mentioned that the noble mind of bhAgavathas is more distinguished that that of bhagavAn. He also says the earlier part of the pAsuram could be transposed as padhinARAm Ayiravar dhEvimAr – podhu nAyagam pAviththu iRumAndhu paNi seyya, which would mean that the sixteen thousand consorts of emperumAn would think that they are the controller of all and would carry out servitude to emperumAn, with pride.
iRumAndhu – being in vanity, on account of this thought
pon sAykkum – winning against the beauty of other lotus flowers
punal arangamE – it is only that SrIrangam, which has abundance of water bodies.
We shall next consider the 5th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
