Highlights from avathArikai (Introduction)

bhagavAn asks “While you have accumulated a lot of sins, why should those, who make you experience the results for the same, live in hiding?” AzhwAr says “I thought about how you made yourself a mendicant for the sake of your followers and how you destroy the obstacles; I observed that those sins have left along with their traces”.

Oh lord, residing in thirukkaNNapuram! As brahmachAri, you measured and accepted the world; you tore sword-bearing hiraNya’s chest which is decorated with ornaments; I am thinking about these now; hence, I, the servitor am not seeing all of the cruel sins, having not done anything good for the self.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

mANAgi … – Being someone who is well versed in seeking such that whether it is the time where someone gave what you sought for or when someone shut the door saying there is nothing, you are having a smiling face; you measured the entire world and accepted the same. For the sake of the child, you tore the armed hiraNya’s chest which was decorated with ornaments.

INdu ninaiththirundhEn – I thought about these which were done by you in the past.

pENAdha … – Instead of seeing the well-being of the AthmA considering that there is an AthmA which is different from body, mind, senses, vital air etc, being dhEhAthmAbhimAni (one who considers body to be the self) I, who gathered great sins, observed that they have left me, along with the traces.

kaNNapuraththu uRai ammAnE – Isn’t the volume of sins matching the greatness of bhagavAn?
