Simple translation
Saurip perumAL is mercifully present in thirukkaNNapuram and is having in his divine form, the complexion of a blackish cloud filled with water; on such bhagavAn, thirumangai AzhwAr, who is the king of thirumangai region and an expert in handling a spear which is having the nature to fight battles, mercifully composed this prabandham which is having abundant good qualities and is in sweet thamizh language and in the form of a sweet song and a garland. Oh servitors! You sing this prabandham and dance, to have the worlds surrounded by ocean, be uplifted.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
seru nIra vEl valavan … – One who is expert in handling spear which has the nature of fighting battles, who vanquishes the enmies, AzhwAr is the leader of the residents of thirumangai region. He sang on Saurip perumAL who is having a rejuvenating form.
iru nIr … – You,who are desirous of kainkaryam! On top of the greatness of the object [bhagavAn] of the prabandham, it is having other good qualities; the prabandham is in sweet thamizh language and is in the form of a musical garland. You sing these pAsurams and dance and see that you are uplifted. Alternative explanation – as said in SrI bhagavath gIthA 14.2 “… sargE’pi nOpajAyanthE praLayE na vyathanthi cha” (Those who attain this knowledge (which is to be explained), will have attained equality with me, and are neither created here nor destroyed), you sing these pAsurams and dance so that you are not submerged in upcoming deluge and suffer, and uplift this world by your roaming around.
