Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kal Ar … – rAvaNan who is dark in complexion, in lankA which is well protected by forts built with rocks. Alternatively – lowly rAvaNan. (kAr) kaRuppu indicates both black colour and lowly nature.

val Agam – To split the strong body which does not get affected even by brahmAsthram etc, one who is having the strong bow which can launch arrows which appear like arrows when they are launched and appear like fire when they hit the enemy target, as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam SlOkam 46-22 “dhIptha pAvaka sangkASai: Sithai: kAnchanabhUshaNai: l na thvAmichchAmyaham dhrashtum rAmENa nihatham Sarai: ll” (I do not wish to see you killed by SrI rAma whose arrows are like burning fire, sharp and decorated with gold), he conducted the arrows, which appear like arrows while launching, but while entering the bodies of the enemies, they will appear like fire).

selva vibIdaNaRku … – He acquired the wealth due to the connection with SrI rAma as soon as he rose to the sky and remained there as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 16.17 “antharikshagatha: SrImAn” (vibhIshaNa, who went through the path of sky and who is wealthy).

vERAga nallAnai – As sugrIva mahArAjar et al stop SrI rAma from accepting vibhIshaNAzhwAn saying “We should not accept vibhIshaNan who is coming”, perumAL insisted “I will not avoid accepting him”, sugrIva mahArAjar said “In such case, the army of kishkindhA will retract” and perumAL said “You can do whatever you want; I will not abandon him in any manner”. In this manner, SrI rAma showed special affection towards SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn.

nAdi naRaiyUril kaNdEn – I searched for him and got to see him in thirunaRaiyUr.
