Simple Translation

Did you see kaNNan, who has the whitish divine conch, who has yellow coloured divine dress, who has deep compassion, who has the divine disc and who is the consort of SrI mahAlakshmi? We saw him, with his fragrant, divine locks similar to spread-out beetles on all sides, which are joyous, playing and shining on his divine shoulders, in SrI brindhAvanam.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

veLiya sangu onRu udaiyAnai – one who has the unique SrI pAnchajanyam, divine conch, which is whitish in colour, contrasting with his divine form which is dark like an ocean. Did not thirumangai AzhwAr enjoy this contrast in his periya thirumozhi 7-10-2 “kaiyilOr sangudai mainniRakkadal” (one who has the unique, divine conch on his divine hand, and who is dark like an ocean)?

pIdhaga Adai udaiyAnai – the divine yellow dress too, due to its colour, would provide a distinct contrast to his dark form.

aLi nanguidaiya – his divine heart would be full of compassion. What is the reason for this compassion?

thirumAlai – because of his intimacy with periya pirAttiyAr [SrI mahAlakshmi]

AzhiyAnai – why are the divine conch and divine disc not enjoyed together as mentioned in thiruvAimozhi 6-9-1 kUrArAzhi veNsangEndhi” (holding the sharp disc which eliminates enemies and the white, divine conch which is enjoyable for the followers) and in thiruvAimozhi 7-2-1sangu chakkarangaL” (divine conch and divine disc), but mentioned separately? She says them separately since she feels that if they are mentioned together, it will invite evil eyes to be cast on them.

Next, it is the respondents’ pAsuram.

kaLi vaNdu engum kalandhARpoL thadam thOL mEl kamazhum pUnguzhalgaL – the swaying of kaNNan’s fragrant divine locks on his huge shoulders appears like a swarm of beetles, bewildered due to imbibing honey, spreading everywhere.

miLira ninRu viLaiyAda virundhAvanaththE kaNdOmE – we cannot see this sight in thiruvAyppAdi since yaSOdhAp pirAtti would have pleated his hair and decked it with flower. Hence, she says that they got to see kaNNan in SrI brindhAvanam, with his locks swaying and playing, radiantly on his shoulders, like beetles.

Next, we will consider the 9th pAsuram of this decad.
