Simple Translation

There are people who do not like to look at you [addressing krishNa] even when you remain without doing anything (since they do not like your splendour). You had made girls from others’ houses to become infatuated with you, hugged their shoulders, played with them and engaged in activities which cannot be mentioned by anyone with the mouth. Those who are in the clan of herd-people will not tolerate to hear this blasphemy. Oh, my bad! Now, I cannot live in this village. Oh, one who is the son of virtuous person nandhagOpar! I have known today that you are the difficult-to-attain-lord. I am afraid to give you [my bosom] milk.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

vALA … – Even when you are not indulging in any mischief, those who do not tolerate your splendour, would not like to see you. When such is the case …

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his svApadhESam, that yaSOdhAp pirAtti tells krishNa “Even if you remain without doing anything, my relatives do not like to see you”.

piRar makkaLai maiyanmai seydhu – you create bewilderment on girls from others’ houses, through your signals [such as winking, whistling etc] [making them infatuated with you]

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that when krishNa goes with other girls, embracing their shoulders and indulging in playful activities with them, none says “I did like this’’” [krishNa admitting what he did] or “You did this…”’[the girls accusing krishNa of some activities] or “He did this…” [others, who had seen them saying what he did]. However, you had done some activities beyond the limit of righteous activities in our clan.

thOLAl ittu avarOdu thiLaiththu – embracing their shoulders and indulging in playful activities with them

nI sollappadAdhana seydhAy – you carried out activities which cannot be mentioned about with the mouth.

kELAr Ayar kulaththavar ippazhi – those who are in the clan of herd-folk would not tolerate to hear these activities.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that yaSOdhAp pirAtti says that even if the person tells nandhagOpar [the head of the clan], he would say “Could you blame my son like this?” and would not listen to the blasphemy.

kettEn vAzhvillai – I am totally dejected. I cannot live in this village. In other words, yaSOdhAp pirAtti says that she cannot inhabit the place. The term kettEn refers to excessive sorrow or dejection, with one making a gesture with the hands, indicating losing everything.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that yaSOdhAp pirAtti says that if nandhagOpar does not listen to her and his relatives, who are also the controllers of herd clan, do not control krishNa, how could she live in that place, with krishNa? vAzhdhal – to reside. kettEn – excess of dejection.

nandhan kALAy – SrI nandhagOpar is one who would not even step on a blade of grass, hard [he is such a noble person, not injuring even a blade of grass]. Being his son, could you behave like this? Alternatively, this indicates that krishNa became a mischievous child because SrI nandhagOpar did not control him while nurturing him.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that yaSOdhAp pirAtti says that only SrI nandhagOpar would consider krishNa’s faults too as auspicious qualities. His countenance would be such that it would be similar to saying dhOshAguNA: [faults too are good qualities]. kALAy – I know that your activities are inappropriate to your age.

unnai aRindhu koNdEn – I have known that you are ”Not like the people of this place” when your age is like this and your activities are like these.

unakku …– Hence, I am afraid to give you [my bosom] milk.
