Simple Translation
[addressing krishNa] You had gone into a secluded garden, with flute, which raises soft sounds, making those who hear them to be infatuated with you. You played on that flute, by keeping it on your divine mouth. Girls, with soft locks decorated with flowers, who are in the village of herd-folks, propelled by the sound of the flute, come there and worship you from all four sides. Oh, my lord, who is resplendent! Apart from the fault of giving birth to you as my son, I do not have any dispute on property with the people in this village. Oh, the mischievous one! I have known today that you are the difficult-to-attain-lord. I am afraid to give you [my bosom] milk.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
maruttu … – when krishNa plays on his bamboo flute, the soft tune emanating from it will make those who hear it to be bewildered such that they would not know of anything else. It would drag the ears of the person to where krishNa is standing. Taking such a flute, you reached a garden which was secluded from the rest of the place such that it was apt for indulging in enjoyment, and placed your divine mouth on the flute.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his svApadhESam, that this would mean that krishNa would enter a garden where beetles would settle down on flowers and keep his divine mouth on a flute which was capable of playing maruL indhaLam tune [a type of tune]. It would also refer to the flute which was capable of making girls to be bewildered.
avvAyar … – in that village, where the herd-folk would say “Look, krishNa is here. Look after the girls carefully”, and would roam around, keeping a protective eye on the girls.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the village was such that krishNa’s divine friends would bring any girl who was not propelled towards him on hearing him play on his flute. The girls in the village had locks which were decorated with soft flowers. This says that the girls were capable of bewildering even krishNa with the beauty of their locks and attracting him towards them.
suruttAr … – the girls, who have curly. soft locks, decorated with flowers, propelled by that tune from the flute, would come, surround you and worship you. Oh, one who stood with such acquired splendour!
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that suRRum refers to surrounding. He says that krishNa’s splendour was on account of his dishonest method of bringing the girls to him.
poruL thAyam … – Oh, one who is my lord! Apart from the mistake of giving birth to a mischievous person such as you, I do not have any connection with the people of this village where they would come and shout at me, in anger.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that apart from hearing the scoldings of the people of the village on account of krishNa, yaSOdhAp pirAtti says that she does not have any dispute with the people there on account of any land or property issue. She tells him that apart from the blame of having given birth to him, she had the misfortune of not having her relatives coming to her place, because of him. Ayam – relatives who are dear, through their hearts.
arattA unnai aRindhu koNdEn – Oh, one who is mischievous like this! I have come to know about you well.
unakku … – Hence, I will be afraid to give you [my bosom] milk.
