In the previous thirumozhi [divine verses], AzhwAr mentioned about the women folk in the herd-clan informing yaSOdhAp pirAtti about the mischiefs carried out by krishNa in their respective house, telling her “Call your son to be near you”, and yaSOdhAp pirAtti calling out to him in various ways, in-line with their request. AzhwAr enjoyed krishNa’s activities of stealing butter, through these pAsurams. krishNa further started disputing with youthful girls in SrI gOkulam; girls, who were thus troubled by him, came to his mother, yaSOdhAp pirAtti, telling her some of the mischiefs which he carried out with them. They said “krishNa carries out several beneficial acts towards his followers such as (1) annihilating the enemies of his followers, (2) protecting his followers, (3) making himself simple for his followers such that they could tie him down and beat him, (4) protecting himself, who is the antharyAmi [indwelling soul] from entities such as pUthanA, by not getting caught by them, (5) transforming himself for the sake of his followers and carrying out their tasks, (6) helping out his followers, knowing their urge, (7) lifting up bhUmip pirAtti who is his follower forever, and who was submerged etc. However, in our matters alone, he acts in a malevolent manner. As a result of all these, we are unable to live. We will all perish, because of him”. AzhwAr recites these wodrs of those girls, in this thirumozhi, enjoying the flavour of krishNa’s playful activities.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that AzhwAr mercifully mentioned about his servitude towards bhAgavathas [servitors of emperumAn] in the previous thirumozhi. emperumAn manifested the flavour of his playful activities to AzhwAr, who, getting aligned with his activities, recalls them. emperumAn made nammAzhwAr to say, as in thiruvAimozhi 3.7.1emmai ALum paramarE” [servitors of emperumAn have us as their servitors in every birth]; however, he made nammAzhwAr to say in the very next pAsuram thiruvAimozhi 3.7.2ALum paramanai” (the one who has superior qualities to enslave his devotees), shifting his focus from his followers to himself. In the same way, periyAzhwAr meditated upon krishNa’s activities of stealing butter, etc in the previous thirumozhi. In this thirumozhi, he meditates on the playful activities of emperumAn with young girls in SrI gOkulam and becomes pleased.
