Simple Translation

Oh, my lord, who snapped the cruel SakatAsuran, who had come due to the incitement of kamsan, by kicking him with your divine feet and who killed the monster, pUthanA, by drinking milk from her bosom! I have kept protective turmeric powder, garland strung with red water-lily flowers and sandalwood which has become more fragrant due to mixing with musk, rose-water etc. Oh kaNNa, who is beautiful! Come for taking a bath.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

kamsan … – the cruel monster SakatAsuran was impelled by kamsan to kill krishNa. He pervaded a wheel which was kept near krishNa. Due to hunger caused by delay in getting bosom milk, krishNa was crying and kicking his divine feet. The wheel came between the kicking divine feet of krishNa and was crushed to smithereens.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his svApadhESam, that while the order of the verse should have been pUthanA – Sakata [krishNa killed pUthanA before he annihilated Sakata], the order has been reversed by mentioning about Sakata first and pUthanA, later. This implies that more than the deception manifested by pUthanA [by taking the form of yaSOdhAp pirAtti], the cruelty of Sakata was greater. Alternatively, it could be said that since emperumAn incarnates in every yuga [epoch], AzhwAr would have seen the annihilation of Sakata in the previous chathur yugam [encompassing all the four yugams] and pUthanA in this chathur yugam. Thus, he has mentioned killing of Sakata ahead of that of pUthanA. It was not only because kamsan had impelled him to go after krishNa, even by nature Sakata was crueler than kamsan and hence he came to kill krishNa. However, krishNa killed him by kicking him such that he was dismembered to smithereens.

vanjagam … – Oh, one who became our benefactor by keeping your divine mouth on the poisoned bosom of the monster pUthanA, who deceptively came in the form of yaSOdhAp pirAtti and killed her! This implies that instead of getting caught at the hands of Sakata and pUthanA, emperumAn killed them and protected himself. This was the benefit which he showered on his followers.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa caused death to pUthanA, who had come with the intention of killing him.

manjaLum … – I have brought turmeric powder which is appropriate for the complexion of your divine form, the garland of red water-lilies, which is appropriate to be donned on your divine crown, fragrant sandalwood paste which has been matured and cooled, and black pigment which has a colour much similar to your divine form., along with other ingredients which are required for your bath.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa knows the distinction in the quality of turmeric which is to be applied on one’s form. Hence, yaSOdhAp pirAtti says that she has selected the turmeric which is appropriate for his divine form. The colour of the garland of red water-lilies would reflect, in a shiny way, on his divine complexion. The dark pigment was of the same complexion as his divine form.

azhaganE nIrAda vArAy – Oh, one who has a beauty which makes these materials to be superfluous! You should come for taking a bath.
