avathArikai (Introduction)

Simple Translation

Oh, chandhran, who is dignified! Do not think contemptuously that “He is a little child”. He is the same child who, at an earlier point in time, reclined on a tender leaf. If he were to become furious, he will jump up and catch you. Without being indifferent towards an eminent entity like this, come with joy, at once.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

pAlagan … – do not make the mistake of being contemptuous, thinking “He is, but a little child”. thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here: do not get distressed by followers of vishNu, after thinking “He is, but a child”. At many places, he had removed insults heaped on you. Even if he incarnates in a lowly form in any birth, he is such an eminent entity that brahmA, ISan et al, who you worship, will have to come hurriedly, if he were to beckon them.

paNdu oru … – realise that he is the same entity who, at an earlier point in time, had kept in his divine stomach, all the worlds and reclined on a tender banyan leaf. This underlines the fact that he has the capability of carrying out aghatithaghatanA (ability to bind together entities which can never be bound together).

mEl ezha …– if he were to become furious, he is capable of jumping up and catching you. thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that this child, should he get angry, would jump above you and catch hold of you. There is no doubt in this. Just as thirumangai AzhwAr had mercifully said in thirunedundhANdagam pAsuram 5oNmidhi…”, when emperumAn took the form of thrivikrama, he had stepped on the heads of all entities. If his foot could touch you, wouldn’t the hand!

mAlai ,,, – Oh, chandhran, who is eminent! Do not underestimate an eminent entity as a little child.  In line with your eminence, come immediately, manifesting your joy that “We have been fortunate to be beckoned by him”. thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here: instead of looking at his infatuation [for you], thinking “Since I am carrying out the orders of emperumAn [in travelling around the skies providing light and coolness to the people of the world], I will come a bit later”, in line with his infatuation, come immediately, manifesting the joy “We have been fortunate to be beckoned by him”.

We shall next consider the 8th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
