After emperumAn had mercifully incarnated in thiruvAyppAdi (SrI gOkulam), the herd-people of thiruvAyppAdi celebrated in a grand manner. AzhwAr meditates on that and becomes blissful.

thirukkOttiyUr is surrounded by mansions which are embellished with gemstones. In that divine abode, krishNa mercifully incarnated in the sweet house of nandhagOpar. People sprayed a mixture of oil and turmeric powder on each other, in the courtyard, which was beautiful and invigorating to look at. As a result, the courtyard became muddied.
vyAkhyAnam
vaNNa mAdangaL sUzh thirukkOttiyUr – just as it has been said in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 4-4-3 “vaNNa nanmaNiyum maragadhamum azhuththi nizhal ezhum thiNNai sUzh thirukkOttiyUr” (thirukkOttiyUr, which is surrounded by pials [raised platforms in the front-yard of houses, called in thamizh as thiNNai] which shine brightly since gemstones such as carbuncles and emeralds have been embellished in them firmly), in thirukkOttiyUr which is surrounded by mansions which have been embellished with different types of gemstones
kaNNan kEsavan nambi – krishNa, who had plentiful and beautiful locks and who was complete with all the auspicious qualities. Also, krishNa who had destroyed the monster kESi.
piRandhinil – this could be considered as piRandhin-il which would mean at the time of being born or as in-il-piRandhu – born in a beautiful house. Unlike mathurA where one could not speak highly of the prison where krishNa was born, in thirukkOttiyUr, he was born in the beautiful house of SrI nandhagOpar. Alternatively [to expand the meaning of kESavan which would mean being the controller of ka (brahma) and ISa (rudhra)], this could be construed as – being the cause for the birth of brahmA, rudhra et al, having auspicious qualities in full, emperumAn incarnated as krishNa.
eNNey suNNam edhir edhir thUvida – being in total bliss [the people in thiruvAyppAdi], mixed oil and turmeric powder and sprayed on one another as an outlet for that happiness.
kaNNan muRRam – since nandhagOpar considered that henceforth kaNNan will be the controller of his house, the courtyard would be called as kaNNan’s courtyard. Alternatively,
kaN nal muRRam – courtyard which was expansive and invigorating
kalandhu aLaRAyiRRE – the oil and turmeric powder mixed together and became muddy.
We shall next consider the 2nd pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
