Simple translation
Reddish-eyed sarvESvaran, my lord, is mercifully residing in the dhivyadhESam named thiruththeRRi ambalam in thirunAngUr. It is the place where the matured swathes of the youthful areca trees will disperse white pearls into the huge-mouthed crab’s muddy hole where lotus flowers which have many petals and are sprouted from a pit have entered; such sarvESvaran is krishNa who descended from paramapadham and incarnated to make the precious gem-studded crowns, strength and fame of dhuryOdhana et al, who were enemies, their wives’ earrings, mangaLasUthram etc and the shackles on the feet of his father vasudhEva to get removed at once and showered his mercy on gajEndhrAzhwAn and protected him.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
mARRu arasar … – dhuryOdhana et al who are enemies of pANdavas as said in mahAbhAratham “dhvishadhannam na bhOkthavyam dhvishantham naiva bhOjayEth” (krishNa said – Neither should one accept food from enemies nor should one serve them food. Oh dhuryOdhana! Since you considered pANdavas as your enemies and as pANdavas are my life [you are my enemy]); as he mercifully said “You are all my enemies; your food cannot be consumed by me; you cannot feed me”, dhuryOdhana et al who are his enemies; their crowns which are made of precious-gems, strength and the fame acquired by winning over many territories.
maRRavar … – As said in periya thirumozhi 2.3.6 “sandhamar kuzhalAL” (dhraupadhi who has coloured hair), the mangaLasUthram of the wives of dhuryOdhana et al.
thandhai kAl thaLaiyum udan kazhala vandhu thOnRi – The shackles on SrI vasudhEva’s feet. He descended and incarnated to eliminate all of these.
kadha nAgam – It is krishNa who protected the angry elephant. sIRRam – anger – when he was grabbed by the crocodile with the mouth, gajEndhrAzhwAn thought “Should I feel sorrow having to take care of myself as if I have no refuge? Why should I worry like this?” since emperumAn did not come immediately to protect him.
nURRu idhazh koL … – To get the meaning clearly, the pAsuram should start with these words. In the pit, there is a lotus flower which has many petals; the huge-mouthed crab entered that flower; the matured swathes of the youthful areca trees will disperse whitish pearls into the holes of the crab. Alternatively, “paguvAy iLam kamugin mudhu pALai” – all of these such as having a matured mouth, the youthful areca trees’ matured swathe, are attributes of the areca tree, and then the crab’s muddy hole is spoken about; in thirunAngUr where the lotus flower enters the crab’s muddy hole and gives its fragrance and the youthful areca tree’s matured swathe disperses the white pearls.
In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
