Simple translation (based on vAdhi kEsari azhagiya maNavALa jIyar‘s 12000 padi)

As I am saying repeatedly “Oh one who is having divine chakra which has radiance as its ornament, as a weapon! Oh one who hoisted periya thiruvadi, who is your vehicle with huge wings, as your flag! Is this befitting?” and while sobbing and crying, emperumAn, the amazing personality, descended into SrI mathurA which is having garden with flowing honey, to eliminate the burden of the vast earth. In what way is emperumAn mercifully thinking?”

Highlights from nampiLLai‘s vyAkyAnam as documented by vadakkuth thiruvIdhip piLLai

  • idhuvO poruththamAzhwAr seeing that emperumAn has still not showed up even after calling out in this manner, rolls his eyes and again says “idhuvO poruththam” (is this befitting your nature?)
  • min Azhip padaiyAy – Oh one who is having the divine chakra which destroys the enemies of the devotees and which resembles lightning in a cloud! Could you not eliminate my hurdles using that divine chakra?
  • ERum … – Oh one who hoisted on his own vehicle, the garuda bird which has rising wings as his flag! Is he not the one who engages his devotees in all types of services?
  • enRu enRu Engi azhudhakkAl – if I keep sobbing and crying throughout this pAsuram
  • edhuvEyAgak karudhum kol -Is he thinking to present himself for this crying out? Or is he thinking that I will keep crying out? Alternative explanation – How is his divine heart feeling hurt for this crying out?
  • immA gyAlam poRai thIrppAn – To eliminate the burden of this vast earth.
  • madhu vAr sOlai – Having garden which has flowing honey.
  • uththara madhurai – Oh one who took birth amidst the enemies such as kamsa et al in SrI mathurA of the north! Oh one who remained in the womb and took birth as said in SrI rAmAyaNam bAla kANdam 18.10 “thathaScha dhvAdhaSE mAsE” (subsequently, on the twelfth month of chaithra, SrI rAma took birth) instead of AvirbhAvam (appearing spontaneously)! AzhwAr is saying – emperumAn has the nature of descending as one amongst the humans to eliminate the enemies of his devotees having bhUbhAra nirasanam (eliminating the burden of the earth) as the reason. What is such emperumAn thinking for my crying out?

In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
